Japanese Militarism Has yet to Die! (The representative opinion leader in Hong Kong, Mr. Wei Chi- Shun, contributed an article to Hong Kong newspaper, "Hsiang Kang Lien Ho Pao," on October 21, 1995 and warned that "Japanese militarism has yet to die!" This same newspaper has many readers in Taiwan, too.) In the article he stated that the Japanese government's attempt to revise the Religious Corporation Law symbolizes the revival of Japanese militarism. He urged that the Asian countries must sound the alarm because they may be invaded again. He says that goal of the Japanese government must be to create an environment that will allow for Japanese militarism to advance. Before the Second World War, the Japanese government enforced educational regulations by the Emperor's "Edict on Education'. After establishing "Religious Corporation Law", and "Security Maintainence Law", Japan launched into the Second World War. Mr. Wei warns that the same may happen again. The Japanese Ministry of Education controls education, culture, and religion. Mr. Shimamura, the Minister of Education, made an insulting address. He said whether the war in Asia during the Second World War was an invasion or not is only a matter of opinion. The Japanese government never apologized for the invasion and atrocities committed. It escaped the responsibility by just making the "Decision not to Fight". Centering around Mr. Shimamura, the Right Wing members of the Lower House are pushing to pass the Revision of the Religious Corporation Law during this term of the Diet session. This revision is said to prevent violence of religious organization, like Aum Shinrikyo incidents. However, the true intent is to control the Soka Gakkai, and deprive the Japanese people of their freedom of religion, speech, and expression. This movement makes us worry that the Security Maintainence Law, under which the Japanese invaded Asia and committed unspeakable atrocities, might be revived. The politicians who are promoting the revision of this law, are the direct successors of war criminals. There is a proof: Prime Minister and Members of Cabinet are visiting and praying to Ise Shinto Shrine on Every New Year's day. They also pray to Yasukuni Shinto Shrine every year, where the souls of A-class war criminals are enshrined. In conclusion, the revision of the Religious Corporation Law sounds a grave warning for all Asian countries. All Japanese people must be on guard against the revival of the Japanese military government. ******************************************************* Note from Fujiko: The Japanese Diet passed the Revision of the Religious Corporation Law on December 8, 1995 (the same day when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941).
