Battery B, 1st Michigan Light Artillery.

From Ottawa County Michigan he enlisted on May 13, 1861. at Grand Rapids at the age of 25. He was discharged for medical disability on October 31, 1861. On November 29, 1863 he enlisted again at Grand Rapids, this time in Battery B, 1st Michigan Light Artillery and served with this unit until discharged at Detroit on June 14, 1865.
