Reminiscent of a 1920's middy blouse, "Vivian" is a loosely fitting, banded dropwaist blouse riding 2" below the waist with 3/4 length sleeves & delicate handkerchief point cuffs, cut on the bias and attached with triple entredeux. Gathered French Lace surrounds the attached individual collar pieces pieced together to simulate lacy handkerchiefs. The collar can be embellished with simple French Knots, triple feather stitch, bullion roses or Silk Ribbon embroidery creating the look of old fashioned handkerchiefs. The V neckline and below the waistline band are a flattering look for any figure. The blouse was designed as a showcase for handmade lace insertions or for embroidered insertions. Included are several original embroidery designs by Maureen Commisa of "Sweets" for simple embroidery, lots of bullion rose combinations and ShadowWork.

Adaptation included for tuck-in style and for a peplum style. Comes with detailed instructions and clear illustrations and a stitch dictionary. Also included is step-by-step instructions for how to make a full-proof bullion rose, as well as a mini stitch dictionary for all of the designs included.

Lace Yardage needed for all sizes:

  • 1 1/4 yards   2" Antique Lace Insertion (Please read "Blouse Front Lace Insertion" first)

  • 2 1/2 yards Entredeux (if needed) for Blouse Front Lace Insertion

  • 1/2 yard Lightweight batiste for Interfacing (preferably Pima Batiste)

  • 1/2 1/4" rivbbon to match fabric for placket closure if desired or 3/8" mother of Peral Button

  • 6 yards 3/4" French Lace Edging for collar for gathered look or 3 yards tatting for ungathered look

  • 30 1/4" Insertion, Beading or Triple Entredeux for sleeve cuff

  • Embroidery floss (DMC, Floche, marlitt Rayon, Zwicky Washable Silk etc.) or 2mm Silk Ribbon

  • 4 1/4" shank MOP Buttons or two 1/2" shank buttons or carved antique mother of pearl button

There are many variations possible with this blouse, particurily the collar.  We have included embroidery designs, ranging from bullion roses to shadow work and crewel embroidery.  Here is one pattern that I design as a simple motif to be placed on the separate petals of the collar.

You can also work some beautiful machine embroidery on the individual petals or silk ribbon embroidery.  Directions are include for making your own shaped handkerchief collar pieces by attaching gathered lace edging to the edge of the collar with the satin rolled hem or if you prefer to line your collar pieces there are also instructions for attaching gathered lace with in a lined collar point. (as shown in photograph).
