Schuhplattler is a type of dance that translates into "shoe slapping". It is an athletic form of dance that comes from Bavaria and Austria. The movements of the men, or "Plattler", mimics the movements of several wild animals such as the Auerhahn (mountain grouse) and Gamsbock (mountain goat). They are showing off for each other, and trying to catch the attention of the ladies. The ladies, or "Dirndln" spin around the men, in time with the music, trying to catch their attention.
