What is Tracht?

Tracht is a German word that stems from the word "Tragen", meaning "to wear". In the context of our Verein, Tracht is the garments that we wear to represent and preserve a particular time period in Bavarian history (mid to late 1800's). As the regional Tracht began to fade in the late 1800s, Vereine formed for the specific purpose of preserving the Tracht and other parts of the heritage (song, dance, dialect). Each region in Germany has its own style of Tracht (no, not all Germans wear Lederhosen). Even Bavaria is separated into different areas. Our Verein wears a Miesbacher Tracht - a Tracht that is representative of the Miesbach region of Bavaria.
