The Gazette advocates civil and economic liberty; freedom of speech, thought, and productive enterprise; the advancement of religious, philosophical, scientific, moral and humanistic knowledge; and the defense of whatever is left of Western Civilization. Persons offended or confused by this endeavor are the ones who make it necessary in the first place. Thank you.

At the moment.

JEREMIAH 8:20 - The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.

It's taken us 30 years, but we've finally realized that we're at war. There are a few other things that need to sink in, and sink in fast:

1. We have no choice in this matter. The stakes are literally everything we have, and everything our children will have. The next time we're surprised, it may well be by a nuclear device exploding in a major world capital. Terrorism does not only possess the potential to kill millions of people, but to bring about catastrophes that could wreck the world economy and put the future of the human race itself into doubt. Unlike the Soviets, who shared the "Balance of Terror" with us for decades, the theoreticians of terror are actually eager to unleash nuclear and biological carnage. They have been telling us so openly for many years. It's time for us to listen. We're not half as scared as we should be.

2. The extent to which terrorists can be said to represent "legitimate grievances" is completely irrelevant. Their hatred of Israel and the United States cannot be redressed by concessions. When we state that we will not negotiate with terrorism, we are doing nothing more than acknowledging the rules that the terrorists themselves have written. We can no longer afford to wallow in historical guilt and tolerate endless apologism. We can no longer deal with terrorist regimes by hoping that irrelevant (and often imaginary) "moderates" will rise up and fight our battles for us.

3. Weapons, diplomacy, intrigue, and money will all be employed in this fight, in their respective arenas. But ultimately this war is a war of ideas. The real enemy is the Big Lie of the 20th Century - the despicable and apocalyptic pseudo-Marxist myth of Imperialism and Neo-Colonialism. This twisted fantasy stars the United States as the villain, and presents Israel and Western Europe as our puppets and henchmen. It hides behind the rhetoric of religion, race, class, and nationalism --- even of environmentalism. It was invented in the West, spread by Western intellectuals, and it has been drummed into the Third World by decades of spiteful propaganda. It has vocal defenders in our own schools and universities. The international media is shot through with its poisonous assumptions, and the entertainment industry uses it as a toy. Even those who reject the lie have become mired in a culture of pessimism and defeatism created by it. It's time that the lie was answered, firmly, openly, and without reservation. It's time that we stopped being intimidated by a hostile doctrine that is not only false, but inhuman and insane.
