Atlantic City Line and North Jersey

New Jersey Transit operates a statewide network of commuter rail lines, which serves hundreds of New Jersey towns and cities, as well as Philadelphia and New York.  The Atlantic City Line, which connects Philadelphia to Atlantic City and other towns in South Jersey, is one of the most interesting NJ Transit rail lines.  The trains leave from the lower level of 30th Street Station, which NJ Transit shares with Amtrak, and then proceed onto the Northeast Corridor.  At Shore Tower, in North Philadelphia, the trains leave the NEC and cross the massive Delair Bridge over the Delaware River into New Jersey.  The scenery along the line is quite varied.  It passes through suburban towns, then farmland, the Pine Barrens, the bay, and then the Intracoastal Waterway just before entering the Atlantic City station.  The Atlantic City Line operates with GP-40 and F-40 diesel locomotives and various push-pull commuter cars, usually Comet II and rebuilt Arrow I (Comet IB) cars.
