Absolem Gleaves

Died 18 Sept 1834

Aged 53 years

Catherine Gleaves

Died 5 July 1866

Aged 82 years

Mary C. Woolford - Born November 10, 1807 - Died June 25, 1873

Aunt Nancy McCauley - Born March 15, 1830 - Died December 5, 1905

A faithful wife and mother dear lies buried here.

One tall obelisk, center of cemetery "Erected in the memory of Absolem

Donna Ferrell and I recorded the above Feb 1, 1993. At that time the

stones listed above were the only ones legible. In addition to those,

there were about 8 - 10 fieldstone markers. The cemetery used to be

enclosed by a fence, but the fence is long gone and the graveyard seems

to shrink on a daily basis. It is located in Davidson County, near I-40

on Central Pike at the intersection of Old Hickory Blvd. Recently, a

new Walgreens drugstore opened up on the corner just west of this

cemetery, same side of Central Pk. The lot in which the cemetery sits

has been up for sale for a while and by the why, it's zoned

commercial. In recent weeks, this lot has received some "yard work" so

to speak; bushes cut, fence rows cleaned out, all conveniently placed in

the center of the graveyard, piled up against the obelisk! I keep

expecting that one day when I drive by, the tall stone will have been

kicked over and the brush pile will have been burned. No one will be

the wiser.
