Reproduction Dairy Creamers
Last updated: 8/4/8
J.W.'s back using one of his favorite old names. Keep track of these people who sell junk. Most of them never sell a real one! You'd think that a creamer from the state where he operates would look more like the real one, but this Texas creamer isn't close to the original.
Repro/Fantasy creamers currently being offered on the net:
| 3/4 | Red | Dover Diner Dover, Del./Free Coffee 9 to 10 A.M. (FANTASY) |
| 3/4 | Red | Park's Diner/same (FANTASY) |
| 3/4 | Black | White Castle Restaurants Syracuse, N.Y./same (FANTASY) |
ALERT!! Recently, this creamer has been offered for sale several times. It is drawing large bids, probably because it looks good and is supposed to be from Hawaii. UNFORTUNATELY, it is JUNK. being one on the fantasy creamers introduced a few years ago. Don't be fooled!

Here are 22 examples of the pure trash now being continuously offered to uninformed and unsuspecting new collectors. GAR-BAGE! Yet buyers are paying up to $30 for this junk. They all have the same cheap look about them, so they are easy to spot. In most cases, the logos have been copied straight off the larger bottles from these dairies. Most recently, she has added war slogans and nursery rhymes to the backs of some of these below. See rules 9 & 10 below.
The first 23 are "FANTASY" creamers - These never existed as real creamers.

THESE REPRO
CREAMERS ARE BEING OFFERED BY THE SAME RIP-OFF ARTIST
Remember - "Fantasy" is another word for "made up" or "not real", and "New Pyro" is another word for "brand new". Private Auctions" are used so nobody can warn the unsuspecting buyer! Don't be fooled!
Many new and reproduced glass dairy creamers are out there to take advantage of the unsuspecting collector. This site is devoted to fighting back against the never ending line of people who seem to want a free ride by selling recently made fakes as authentic original merchandise. It is also intended to help the creamer collector avoid obtaining new or reproduction creamers from unsuspecting sellers who bought these creamers believing them to be authentic. It is not our intention to judge the sellers, nor to speculate if they are aware of the authenticity of the creamers they have. It is purely to let new (and old) collectors avoid creamers judged not to be authentic in the OPINION of several of the long-time collectors with large collections and a wealth of knowledge on the topic. Use this listing as a guide when looking for creamers. ALL of the creamers specifically mentioned here, in our opinion, are newly-made and NOT authentic original creamers. We will make every attempt to keep this lpage current. If you have questions, comments or additions, please email us at geo2486@aol.com We'll be happy to help. Be educated - every repro you buy encourages the makers to crank out more new ones. Most experienced creamer buyers will be happy to help you if you have a question. Just ask one of them before buying if you are new to the hobby. We can also put you in touch with other collectors and hobbyists who are knowlegable about dairy creamers who will be happy to share their knowledge and experience with you. Just ask!
First, a word about the creamers from Taiwan (the ones WITHOUT THE CAPSEATS) Most all creamers have capseats (the little rim around the inside lip of the creamer that prevents the cap from falling into the creamer). There were 2 or 3 sets of 6 creamers made in Taiwan in the early 90's that can be quickly identified because they have no capseat. The most common set includes a square and round Daricraft, a square and round Meadow Gold and a square and round Quality Dairy, as well as a 1/2 ounce Muller's. There were far less of the others made (Monroe, Foxes Dairy, Borden's, Mello-Blend, Dairy Kraft, Seneca (with pix of Indian). All are quickly identified by the lack of a capseat. If the creamer is smooth inside, it is a repro from Taiwan. The color is a little faded and thin on these also. Ask the seller if the creamers they are offering have capseats. If he doesn't answer "yes", stay clear. The Spring Grove Dairy from Atglen and a few 1 OZ milkglass creamers are exceptions - these are authentic, but have no capseats.
It is a common misconception that all phony creamers are missing the capseat. This is false. ONLY A SMALL PERCENTAGE OF PHONY CREAMERS ARE WITHOUT CAPSEATS. The vast majority of repros have a capseat, and are not so obvious.
General Rules of Thumb
1. WE HAVE NEVER SEEN A "PRIVATE AUCTION" FOR A REAL CREAMER!! Apparently people who can spot a phony were warning people bidding on them. The "PRIVATE AUCTION" is a way the seller can make sure no one warns his bidders that he is selling repros. Therefore, it is a sure bet that any "PRIVATE AUCTION" for a creamer is gonna be a rip-off! Stay clear!!!!!
2. ALL 20-30 different creamers with Railroad logos being offered for sale are FAKES. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS!! Railroads used china, not glass, on their train dining cars. There is a Mo-Pac Cafe creamer that was used by the Missouri Pacific railroad in their cafes in some of the railroad stations, but that is the only authentic creamer that comes close. It doesn't have a logo. PS: There are no real airline creamers either! Companies not in the dairy or food service business did not have creamers. Corporation logos found on creamers for companies that sell tires (Goodyear), engines (Edelbrock), and oil (Union) are easily identified fantasy creamers. Again, no exceptions!
3. There are no real creamers made of anything other than clear glass or milkglass. Anything on any colored glass, including amber, are new. Be suspicious of most all 1 OZ milkglass creamers with anything other than writing on them. There are legitimate Melody Lane and Ben-Hur creamers with pictures - all others are likely fakes. There seems to be a lot of phonies that meet this criteria.
4. Most creamers with other than dairy company logos are phony. There were no real pyroglazed creamers from Coon Chicken, Crackerjack, Mr. Donut, Howard Johnson (they used plain milkglass creamers with no writing - just the logo on the paper pull tab), and Hopalong Cassidy. There are several legitimate old Chicken in the Rough creamers with the logo of a chicken playing golf on the back.
5. Bordens made about 56 different red pyro creamers, and 2 fairly hard-to-find orange ones. Ones in other colors, or more than 1 color, are all fakes. Unfortunately, there are also some fake red ones around.
6. There are only 6 or 7 known creamers with two colors, and only the Cupid's has 2 colors on the same side. All are extremely rare. Only the 2-colored Kennedy-Mansfield, the Gnagey's and a Christmas creamer have ever been offered on the net. All of the others are fakes, including every Sealtest and Borden's creamer with two or more colors..
7. Any creamer with a "war slogan" is phony, with the exception of a 1-Ounce Gray's that says "Freedom", and a 2-color Dykes that may have been made in the 70's or 80's as a commemorative item.
8. There are no legimate creamers from either Hawaii or Florida. except from one from a Pensacola dairy. ALL other creamers indicating or hinting that they are from either of those states are not authentic.
9. The lettering on original authentic creamers was applied with a process called pyroglazing or applied color lettering" (ACL), which applied liquid colored glass to a super-heated blank creamer with a silk-screening process, resulting in the lettering actually being melted into the creamer. It does not come off because it is IN rather than ON the creamer. Early repros were made using decals, color etching, painting or other processes which resulted in the letters being easily removed with a thumbnail or other instrument. Most recently, the makers of phony new creamers are using a new paint developed a few years ago that does not scratch off. However, if held under a strong magnifying glass, the edges on the print appear feathered, or fuzzy, and not sharp and crisp like the edges of the printing on pyroglazed creamers. There is also a question about how well this paint will hold up over time and whether or not it will discolor or fade with repeated washing.
10. Some people who sell repro creamers sell them in groups of 3-5 at a time, and almost all of these sellers NEVER offer an authentic creamer. If you see several of the creamers being listed by the same person that are listed in the list of known fantasy/repro creamers below, or in the book, "Dairy Creamers - Fourth Edition", count on them ALL being fakes.
HOW TO AVOID BUYING ANY REPRO/FANTASY CREAMERS
A complete listing of the repro & fantasy creamers was compiled jointly by the authors of the book, "Dairy Creamers" and this website. The latest edition of the book, Dairy Creamers - Fourth Edition" contains the complete list of all of the first 300+ reproduction and fantasy creamers produced right up to the time the book was printed last year.
