Rich Elliott's 1972 Ghia Profile March 30th, 1996. It was a cold and rainy Saturday morning, in Portland, Oregon. While I was reading the paper and glancing through the VW section of the classifieds, I ran upon this ad... 1972 VW KARMANN GHIA. NEW PAINT. When I first saw the car, it was sitting in the garage of it's owner, Russell Caddell, under a single, dim bare light. I was stunned by it's beauty. Both the bright yellow paint and the original chrome had been buffed to a flawless shine. Over the next few minutes, I learned of the original styled new interior, the new transmission, the new dash board, and much more. Most of all, I learned how Mr. Caddell obviously cared very much for his little beauty and how really difficult this experience of parting with the Ghia was for him. He showed me the thousands of dollars worth of receipts he had spent restoring the car. Money obviously was not his motivation for selling this car. He explained how the Army was transferring him to Washington DC, and how he would have nowhere to store the car except outdoors. Mr. Caddell was more concerned about the Ghia's welfare than his own pride of owning the car.... Ghia Vitals... Restoration Preformed... Additionally... Proud Owner Vitals...
