Rosebud experienced incubator humidity problems,
leaving her
awkwardly positioned and unable
to hatch on her own. Dean helped
at just the right time, using tweezers to pick the shell away piece
by tiny
piece. The chick is still lying in half of her shell.

Three days later she's up and at 'em.
My hand shows the scale
of her size.

Above: Rosebud at 2 months old. This photo in the
house just
doesn't do justice to her
brilliant red, blue and green plumage.
She is 1/4 Scarlet and 3/4 Greenwing. She is a very gentle bird
and began to talk at 4 months old. The Ruby Macaw is a mixture
of a Scarlet and a Greenwing.

At the right: Rosebud at nearly 8 months old.
Outside in natural light, she fairly glows!

Four African Grey chicks from 2-3 weeks old. They are laid
at 2-day
intervals and hatch at 2-day intervals,
so the eldest
(far right) is 6
days older than the youngest
(far left). Just fed, their crops are full.
(April 2000) |
By 6 1/2 weeks, the chicks have really grown! Feathers
are coming along, and wings are used for balance. They
are alert and interested in their surroundings. One was
sold before this picture
was taken. (May 2000)

Six-week-old Eggatha becoming a real beauty...
(April 1999)
|
Eggatha's parents, Sadie and Curt. Guessing gender
is
unnecessary in Solomon Island Eclectus. Females
are red
and blue, and the males are mostly green.
Only 9 pair were imported to the United States, and
that was in 1980.
