GOD'S PROJECT began on December 1, 2000 as a 30 day project. Brother Van R. Johnson, II was contacted about providing music for a variety of community events during the holiday season. Without a choir or a group, Bro. Johnson asked some close friends and associates to assist him during the holiday season. These friends and associates were from the Sounds of Unity Mass Choir and the St. Philip A.M.E. Church Worship and Praise Team.
The group's first engagement was on Friday, December 1, 2000 during the 2000 World AIDS Day Observance in Savannah, GA. The group was also selected to sing at the re-opening celebration of St. John's Cathedral and also at the Homecoming Services of St. Philip A.M.E. Church, Atlanta, GA.
After the initial 30 days, the members of the group enjoyed the praise and fellowship so much, they wanted to continue to unite their voices and talents to spread the gospel in song to all four corners of the world.
Without a formal organizational structure, but with a universal agreement to serve the Lord through song, this group of young people have resolved to function as personal musical missionaries for God.
In 2001 during their debut concert, God's Project raised more than $2,000 that was given to the Savannah Mission Bible Training Center, a Christian, residential alcohol, addictions and drug treatment center; and the Savannah Juvenile Sickle Cell Anemia Advocacy Group.
In 2002 during their 2nd Anniversary, God's Project raised almost $3,000, which some of the proceeds were given to Project Azuka, which provides HIV/AIDS services to women; My Brothaz H.O.M.E., which provides HIV/AIDS services to men; Julia Fountain A.M.E. Church, which is rebuilding their sanctuary; and the indigent food ministry of St. Philip A.M.E. Church.
