Like an army, web sites don't tend to be static ... they often move around
and change locations as circumstances dictate. As of March 2002, And Then
A.P. Hill Came Up: A.P. Hill Confederate General has been greatly expanded
and moved to its own domain and host, located at
www.aphillcsa.com. Please click here:
And Then A.P. Hill Came Up to visit
the "new" web site.
It is greatly appreciated and highly recommended that that you
change any bookmarks and links pointing to this page to the new domain as
this page will not be here forever.
Why the move? The new domain and host for the web site have the following
advantages. I think you will be convinced this new headquarters location
is far better! Here's some of the advantages of the move:
No ads and no ugly Hometown AOL banner which AOL in its infinite wisdom
likes to sometimes stick on my site even though I'm not a member of "hometown."
This is my site, my work, and I don't want AOL making money
off it with ads unless they are paying me! I pay for the new domain and host
and it is ad-free so you don't have to worry about pop-ups and blinking banners.
A faster, far more reliable server, meaning less problems accessing
the site because of AOL's terrible track record lately in "fixing" their
servers. It also means I can update the site when I want ... which means
the site gets updated faster!
Much more server space (over 300MBs as opposed to a paltry 2) meaning
much more content has been added, including more photographs and
more 19th century accounts including some stuff I had to remove for lack
of space at the old site. The site, counting all of the photographs and other
graphics, as well as the new content, is more than ten times as large as
the site was when located on AOL. In short, much more A.P. Hill stuff!
A far easier to remember url / address. Now all you need to remember
to get to the site is aphillcsa.com. This also provides the site with a permanent
home.
A brand new, improved site design, optimized for 1024x760 resolution,
but fully viewable at 800x600. A CSS capable browser is highly recommended
for visiting the site. Recommended browsers include Internet Explorer 5 and
up and Netscape 6 and up. My apologies, but because Netscape 4.7 does not
seem to read CSS correctly, the site will not display properly with this
particular older browser.
