In Riverton, Wyoming, a three year old girl named Stephanie Winfield escaped her mother's attention, leaving her backyard and making her way to the bank of a nearby irrigation canal, where she tumbled in. As she fought to keep her head above water, her rottweiler, Katz, ran barking to the canal, jumped in and grabbed Stephanie by the shirt. He swam with her to the side and eventually managed to haul her up on to the rim of the canal where he promptly began barking again. Stephanie's mother followed the sound of Katz's voice to find the pair of them, soaking wet on the ground, unharmed but for a torn shirt.
