- BATS -- BAY AREA TRANSACTION SYSTEMS USERS<BR> GROUP - CICS

BAY AREA TRANSACTION SYSTEMS(BATS aka CICS BAUG)

Last meeting ...

The last meeting of BATS was May 28,1998. This was a 'help' meeting to see if we wanted to continue with the group. Only three people besides myself attended, and it was tentatively decided to disband the group - but to wait until summer was over to make a final decision.
9/29/98 I sent out an e-mail asking for help in making the decision: Do we disband the group or attempt to keep it going? The response was overwhelming in favor of trying to keep it going. The announcement of CICS ts 1.3, which is a 'web-oriented' release has received a lot of attention, which helped fuel this response. Therefore we will continue to try and keep BATS alive.

What's new?

Since my last letter there have been some new CICS Internet SupportPacs available at
SupportPacs I will be adding a permanent link to this site in the interesting links section of our web page. The SupportPacs are:
  • CA85 - CICS Transaction Server- CICS Web Interface Guide
  • CA86 - Enhanced CWI Analyzer
  • CA87 - CWI Interface to REXX
  • CA88 - CICS Gateway for Java
  • CA89 - Web Access to CICS using Java Servelet

  • IBM is renaming the Domino Go Web Server (again). It will be called the Websphere Server. This contains a Java Servlet engine, and Java connectors. The connectors are programs and classes that assist you with interfacing your Java Servelets to CICS, IMS, DB2, And MQSERIES. The CICS Gateway for Java is included with WebSphere. More information onWebSphere can be obtained WebSphere . I will add a permanent link to this site. The WebSphere performance pack contains a load balancing component, a caching proxy server, and an enterprise file system. More information on this can be obtained WebSphere Performance Pac
there is a wonderful intro to the CWI and the 3270 bridge. This redbook is titled CICS Transaction Server for OS/390: Web Interface and 3270 bridge and can be found at Redbooks . I am adding a permanent link to this page.

    ITEMS OF INTEREST!

There is a new category of SupportPac's - Category 4. These pacs are submitted by third parties, and are not guaranteed by IBM, but are on an 'as is' basis. Currently there have not been any submitted for CICS, however if this takes off it has great potential.
Interested in a third party product which runs under CICS Transaction Server? Hursley has started a wonderful new site
CICS Business Partners . This site has useful information regarding Third party vendors and their support of CICS TS.
