Leonard Cheshire is the leading disability care charity in the UK and Internationally. The Charity now runs 140 services across the UK and over 250 in 55 countries worldwide. For fifty years Leonard Cheshire has led the field in providing innovative projects and facilities for people with a physical disability. Greenhill House was opened in 1964, following the purchase of the Home by the Bath Round Table. This private house was formerly owned by the Pews family who were well known in the Timsbury village. Initially it provided care for four people with disabilities and was staffed by volunteers. In time, further demand saw the need for paid carers and expansion. In 1972 the South Wing was added on to the existing property allowing thirteen single rooms in addition to those provided in the main house. 1981 saw further expansion when the East/WestWing was built to provide a further twenty bedrooms, many with en-suite, a dining room and new facilities. Greenhill House now offers residential and nursing accommodation for 33 people inclusive of a respite facility and is well known for its work with young people with physical disabilities.
