Spring
Spring is finally around the corner!
Time to polish the rides, take off down the open road, wind tickling
your ear...
As weather warms, make a point of catching some of it. Mankind
was not made to thrive in the florescent light of a
cubicle.
Family? Pack 'em up. Go find some outdoor culture. Go to the zoo. Find the
local free outdoor concerts. Wheeling has lots.
Till but be safe. If the garden you're sowing is new, make sure your
not pushing Mr. Roto Tiller over a gas line.
And watch out for kids playing in the streets as the weather warms.
But Mom, Dad, keep them little ones out of the streets in the first
place.
Take them to parks, school events, church events, the public pool...
Be safe and live well! Enjoy your Spring!

Six Months
by R. S. Stewart
It has been six months since that horrible day in which thousands of our
loved ones perished in the Twin Tower and Pentagon attacks.
The nation, even the world, has united behind our efforts.
We have freed a nation from the grip of our enemy.
And while we grieve the loss of our fallen warriors in this struggle, our
losses since September Eleventh have been slight.
We at the Observer support our government's continued efforts, no, we join
in demanding them.
And we continue to offer our solice to those who have suffered loss both
in the initial attacks and in the ensuing struggle.
Our hearts are beside yours, and may God offer you comfort in these trying
times.
To our soldiers we say, "Thank you." You have our deepest gratitude.
There are not words deep enough, there are no songs, no odes that can convey
the fullness of our debt to you in these days.
You are fullfilling your chosen duty in that you have offered yourself a
sacrifice that the battle may be at our enemy's door and not our own.
You offer yourself as a target so that we may not be, standing in our stead.
And with courage you labor steadfast and true to bring the ravages of defeat
upon those that hate us and would do us harm.
May God keep you.
Finally, to our nation's leaders.
We laud you conviction, and thank you for your steady hand.
This is no easy task, and a world often rails against those on a true path.
We call on you to remain true to the necessary journey ahead. We may have
seen the darkest days. More likely, the depth of struggle lies ahead.
The enemy that has engaged us you have set in disarray, but ease now, and
he will return in force, as heroes to those who hate us not for what we have
wrought against them, but for who we are as human beings.
Stay true, and draw on the need of the moment as your motivation.
Thank you.
May we all continue likeminded in this matter until victory is won and we
may sheath our swords in peace.

New Outlet Mall a Given
Opinion By RS Stewart
Even today, a multi-billion dollar package is frozen in legislator regarding
the proposed Downtown Wheeling Outlet Mall.
The up side of a new Outlet Mall is that the economic infusion could bring
new life to a faltering urban area.
The downside is that the few tenacious merchants that held on, all these
years begging for the City's help, could be forced out.
This is their home, this is their city, and they have kept it going all these
years.
What kind of treatment is this?
Is this the face of government we can be proud of?
Perhaps the City should review its options, and revamp its plans so that
our loyal downtown merchants may see the fruit of the labor that has held
this downtown tgether for so long.

Music in Wheeling
Jaybo's Lounge on National Road, Elm Grove, has frogs. Lots of frogs,
some in tuxes, some in leather, some in dresses. These little critters are
everywhere.
Jaybo's also has some of the best music in town.
Especially during open mike acoustic night Tuesdays, and electric night
Wednesdays.
Tuesdays one finds Randy Keener, Terry Phillips, John Barlow, and other great
acts soloing or combining to lay out great tunes.
Wednesday, get ready to rock!
Some of the Tuesday crowd heads back with bands and electric guitars. Adrian
Porter, John Barlow, and some of the new rock and roll bands come out to
make a name for themselves.
This is the place Cherylann Hawk started. Its where half the local talent
started. Its also the place to be in Wheeling Tuesdays and Wednesdays, not
just to enjoy the music, but to enjoy the ambience of cool but friendly Jaybo's.
Party with the frogs!
Looking for a change?
Those same nights find two free to the public events in California, PA.,
at Jozart's Studios, 333 Second St, California PA.
Tuesday at 8:00 PM is Carla Anderton's "Peer-Amid's Literary Experiment"
continues with Open Venue Night.
Lots of music, and great poetry, playwriting, and storytelling interspersed.
Bring writing or instrument and join the fun, and check it out.
Wednesdays at Jozart's is Open Mike for musicians, free to public. It all
taps into the Valley and the University of Pa. at California art scene.
