I'm looking for information on the HALES of Jasper County, Mississippi in and around the
town of Heidleberg. Our patriarch was a white man named John
HALES and my great Grandad was Ben HALES. My grandfather was Raphus
HALES. I'm trying to trace my lineage back to Africa. Any information I'd appreciate. John
HALES married a black woman before the turn of the century and Ben was born around 1890 or 1895. I need to find anything on John and his wife because she is the key to tracing my family back before the
slave ship. Thank you. HCRAZYCAT@cs.com

My HALE line goes like this:
My gggg grandfather was John C. HALE, born 03 Apr 1806 in Scott Co.,
VA (?) married Barsheba MILLER on 12 Aug 1830. Their children were:
James Randolph HALE, born in 19 Mar 1832 in Cooper Co., MO (?)
Martha Jane HALE and William H. (twins), born 30 Mar 1834 in MO (?)
John C. HALE, Jr. born 19 Sep 1836 in Sabine Co., TX
All of John and Barsheba's children died young except for my ggg grandmother Martha Jane HALE. She was the only child to reach
adulthood and marry.
I would like to find the parents/siblings of John C. HALE. He settled
with Barsheba and their children in Sabine Co., TX in 1834/35. He
then joined up to fight in the Texas Revolution with Col. Sherman's
2nd Regiment of Texas Volunteers and was named 1st Lt. under the command of Capt. Benjamin Bryant. He was killed in action at the
Battle of San Jacinto on 21 Apr 1836 (before the birth of his last
child). He was 1 of only 9 Texans killed in the battle that won Texas' independence from Mexico. Hale County, Texas was named in his
honor.
My John C. HALE has been confused with another John C. Hale from Vermont who also settled in the Sabine District of Texas at the
approximately the same time.

I have just recently found out where my great grandfather JOSEPH CARROL
HALE was from, he was born August 20, 1849 in Bledsoe County, Tennessee
to JOHN and NANCY (WORTHINGTON) HALE. In 1850 the HALE's are in Bedsoe
County Tennessee and then in 1860 and 1870 they are in Marshall County
Kentucky. I would love to hear from anyone who might be tracing this
HALE family. My great grandfather JOSEPH CARROL HALE was married to
FRANCIS PATHENA PATE on August 20, 1881 in Faulkner County Arkansas and
to this marriage there were 6 children: JOHN OLIVER born January 24,1884;
IDA MELVINIA born January 6, 1886; NANCY VIRGINIA born January 6, 1889(Jenny); WILLIAM
BENJAMIN born October 1890; SHIERFIELD born October 8, 1891 died 1892;
JOSIE ELLEN born December 16, 1893 (this was my grandmother); and LILLIE ANN born October 12, 1899. JOSEPH CARROL HALE
died in 1903 in Faulkner County Arkansas; FRANCIS PATHENA PATE HALE
BLESSING died February 14, 1953 in Cabot Arkansas. If anyone has any
information on any of these HALE's please email me. Thanks Soni

For years I have been searching for the ancestry of my great-grandmother, Margaret "Maggie" HAILE. She married John Arthur WILSON in Bedford County, Tennessee, on March 30, 1870. They lived in Tennessee until about 1880, when the census puts them in Bell County, Texas. From there they moved to McLennan County, Texas, near Waco.
Maggie was born 12 Feb 1848 in Tennessee (probably Bedford Co.). She died in McLennan Co., Texas, 4 June 1904 (from tombstone). This is all the information we have about her, except that she may have been part Cherokee-- this is so far unsubstantiated legend.
Have been interested in some of the Hales from Bedford Co., Virginia, that I've been reading about in this forum because my
WILSON's and other collateral families (MOSELEY, HUNTER) migrated from the Bedford/Campbell/Charlotte counties of Virginia around the turn of the century to Bedford Co., Tennessee, and the Christian/Todd/Trigg areas of Kentucky.
One possibility: A Reuben and Harriet HAILE are listed in the 1850 Bedford Co. Tennessee census (when Maggie would have been 2 years old) who have a two-year-old daughter named Margaret. However, the name "Reuben" does not reappear in our subsequent generations, and I am doubtful that these are my
HAILE's.
Would be most grateful to hear from any HAILE's with Bedford Co., Tennessee, roots who can provide clues to Maggie's heritage. My email address is
grifserv@mindspring.com. Thanks!

My Maternal Grandmother was named Polly Ann
HALE. She married William HAILE. I am of the impression that they may have been in TN when married. I know that in 1892 they were in west Texas, Ladonia or Frost, I believe. Grandma Polly died and William married again. My Grandmother always told us that we were
descendents of Nathan HALE. I know this to be false as, per all the records I can find, this patriot had no children. I believe Grandpa William was named William
Daniel HALE. My Grandmother was born Ardella Mae HAILE in 1892. She was one of several sisters, and about in the middle. I am guessing that, given her birth year, her parents were born in the mid 1800's. I was also
told that Grandpa had a fair amount of Cherokee blood in him. I have no other information and do not know where else to look.
If you have any information regarding my quest I would greatly appreciate the information. Please email your reply to
wyvern@extremezone.com

Jean Luckey

I don't really know how to begin. I was able to find the ship's log with my
Grandfather, James Thomas HALE, coming over at Ellis Island, but it just said on the register he was from Ireland. My Grandfather and two of his brothers (whose names I don't know) stayed here in the USA, but four of his brothers went back to Ireland. I have heard that one of my grandfather's brothers became a Medicine Man selling snake oils and other remedies in New Mexico. I believe that
I might have been named after one brother, William E. HALE. He either lived in the Washington DC or
Pittsburgh area.
Any ideas you have that might help, I would really appreciate. bhale@SMACDATA.com (Bill Hale)

I am looking for information on the parents and possible siblings of Nancy
D. HAIL, who married Seaborn LOVELESS in Hall Co., GA, on 8 Aug 1833.
Nancy was probably born in 1810 in Anderson Co. SC. She can be traced in the
decennial censuses of 1840 (Anderson, SC), 1850 (Cherokee Co., GA) and 1870
(Blount Co., AL). I have not yet found her in 1860.
Family lore says Nancy was the daughter of Daniel or Dannel HAIL or HALE,
who lived to the improbable age of 123. He would have died about 1846,
putting his birth, if his age at death is correct, around 1723.
Lore says Daniel was a slave owner and trader who traveled to the slave
markets near Louisville KY. There he met Seaborn LOVELESS (b. in KY
abt. 1807), whom he recruited to oversee slaves in the fields of his SC holdings.
Seaborn went to SC, where he met Nancy. After their marriage in GA, they
returned to SC and had two children, James Belton LOVELESS and Mary E.
LOVELESS. Seaborn died from unknown causes about 1841.
In the late 1860s, James Belton LOVELESS and his young family moved to
northern Alabama to join kin of both the LOVELESS and HAIL lines who were
already there.
I would appreciate any information about the elderly Daniel or any other SC
HAIL's who could be linked to Nancy. Thank you.

I have been trying for two years to trace the location of William
PETTYJOHN between 1777 -1795.
The evidence seems to point to Franklin County, Virginia. William was found
as a juryman in Bedford County, VA as well as Franklin Co. VA. during the
1780's. Franklin County, VA was formed from Bedford County during this
time. The natural border for this split was along the Roanoke River at
Hale's Ford. This area is now Smith Mountain Lake. Edward HALE
(son of John HALE Sr.) would have been of the same generation. Old records on reel film in
Virginia has shown the following: I. N. PETTYJON married Julia
HALE 1853. Richard TALIAFERRO married Polly HALE 1812. Archibald
PETTYJOHN married Mary TALIAFERRO in 1855. jdavis6@triad.rr.com (John W. Davis Jr. MT)

From a book titled "40,000 Early Georgia Marriages" by
Maddox-Carter, (1976, revised & reprinted 1977) I've learned
of an October 11, 1837 marriage in Walton County, Georgia between
Thomas J. HALES and Ann WATERS.
Does anyone have additional information about this event? Are they
descended from the parties and know more of their family
information? Have they seen the record and know of witnesses,
other relevant dates, additional names, what the middle-initial
stands for, etc.
There seems to be some chance they could be my ancestors but I
need more detail to determine that with assurance.

I am searching for information regarding Gardner HALE. He married
Rhoda PERRY, who was born 1793 in Hartwick, Otsego County, NY.
Their children were: Jessie who married Fred PERRY; Gardner born
1819 married Betsy ? ; Nancy born 1822 who married Abram
VANVALKENBURG; Hannah born 1825 married Nathan D. SALSBURY; and
Martha born 1830 married Ira PERRY. Gardner and Rhoda lived in
Lysander, Onondaga County, NY in 1843 when Nancy and Abram were
married. It seems as all the children moved to southern
Michigan/northern Ohio region and most are buried in the same
cemetery in southern Michigan. I found a grave I believe to be
Rhoda's in northern Ohio, next to some children of Gardner, Jr.'s.
I have been unable to find them in the census records either in NY
or Ohio.
Also, living in northern Ohio (Fulton County) is another family
who used to attend the same family reunions and they all called
each other "cousin", that is the family of Justus Luther
HALE born 1816 in Malford/Maeford, NY (can't find on map). He
married a Betsy, then a Mary BERRY and had a son Luther J. HALE
born 1870. (I also have his children and grandchildren).

I recently acquired an old scrapbook. I *believe* that it belonged
to either a Lydia Devan HALEor a Louise Newlin HALE. Their father
I believe was Richard HALE, who was a pastor of the Caroline
Church. He died on April 1, 1886. in Cranford, NJ. Anyway,
the scrapbook has many bits of poetry and quotes from the day. It
also has birth, death and marriage announcements. I don't
want to part with it right now--I am interested in it's
content. But if the information that it contains is of interest or
help to someone please let me know. I got it from an auction
site--he found it in an attic somewhere. Tammy Mahoney tamahone@post03.curry.edu
