This book tells the story of a man who devoted his entire life to the freedom and independence of his country, Kurdistan.
Abdul-Rahman Zabihi was born in Mahabad in 1920, and was one the founders of the first nationalist political organisation in eastern Kurdistan, the Komala J.K. He took an active part in the running of the first Kurdish republic, the short-lived Mahabad Republic of 1946-47.After its Collapse he took refuge in southern Kurdistan, where he became actively involved in the liberation movment, rising to become a member of the political Bureau of Kurdish Democratic Party. During the period of the monarchy in Iraq he was forced to leave the country, he found himself in Syria. Where once again he participated in the struggle of the Kurdish people, playing an important role in the foundation of the Kurdish Party of Syria. After the fall of the monarchy in Iran, Zabihi returned once more to eastern Kurdistan to contribute to the movement of the Kurdish people there. Rumour has it that he was eliminated at the hands of the Ba`thists in mysterious circumstances in Baghdad in 1980.
Active too in the field of culture and language, he compiled one of the best dictionaries of the Kurdish language in existence; he spoke seven living languages.
This book analyses the life and fortunes of this great man; at the same time it offers an overview of the history of Kurdistan in the last sixty years, through Zabihi´s involvement in many of the key events and movements of the period.
