The Hartley Morris Men are the oldest Morris side dancing
in the West Kent area,
with our roots going back to the Stansted Morris dancers of 1934 - 39.
We perform the ancient and traditional Morris dances of the Cotswold style.
Our performing season runs each year from May until September and usually
starts with a
spectacular May Day morning performance at dawn at the Coldrum Stones Long
Barrow.
During the summer season the side maintains a long standing tradition of
dancing at pubs
throughout West Kent. Bringing back live folk entertainment to large numbers
of people
within the community and providing the men themselves with the opportunity
to enjoy good ale!
We inevitably end the formal season at our favourite local, the Rose and
Crown in Wrotham
for a jolly good sing.
Singing has been part of a Hartley evening for the past 30 years. To
celebrate our 50th
Anniversary we have made a new CD containing a good selection of our current
repertoire.

In addition to the dancing and singing, over the Christmas period,
traditional mumming plays are performed by
The Darenth Valley Champions in aid of local charities.
We practice in
Wrotham
on Thursday evenings throughout the winter (In case you
wondered). If you fancy joining us, rather than just watching us, come along
to our
Taster Evening on Thursday 18th September in Wrotham or contact me at

In keeping with the laid back Hartley
approach were not including the usual guff about
the Morris or it's various origins. You can find that by looking at the
