Hassan Aliyu

Hassan Aliyu was born in London in 1964. In his early childhood he moved with his family to Nigeria. Studying fine art, he graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria's leading art institution in 1986 winning the Nigerian Arts Council award for best final year student. In the following years he exhibited at Lagos at the British Council, the National Gallery of Modern Art, the National Museum and the National Gallery of Crafts and Design. Hassan returned to London in 1990 and in doing so his resulting work responded to his own history, seeking to address "ongoing debates and issues of race within the context of the black British experience."
