Designed by Dan McCarron, an experienced and serious austringer, the Hawk box represents an entirely new design concept in "giant hoods" and the transporting of unhooded game hawks. You will be amazed and delighted at the ease in maintenance and utility of the Hawk box, while either traveling to and from your local hawking fields, or on extended trips.
In cooperation with a leading plastics manufacturer, these boxes are carefully built exclusively for Dan according to his exact specifications, and are shipped directly from the factory to your door. All of the effort and energy that has gone into the design and construction of these boxes, has been focused on the needs of your bird, your convenience, and your peace of mind. The Hawk box is structurally tough, and has been engineered to provide years of reliable field use.
With minimal care, the Hawk box will provide many years of reliable use. The turf material can be replaced as often as needed. Common household contact cement can be used to adhere the turf material to the perch frame.
Clean the inside/outside of the box with mild detergent. Liquid dish washing detergent is ideal. Bleach is acceptable, but should not be left standing on the box surface for long periods of time. Do not use abrasive cleaners as scratching or dulling of the finish may result.
For added stability when transporting the box in the back of a truck, it may be necessary to attach the box to a 1/2"- 3/4" thick plywood base. (Approximately 26"x 26".) This is quickly done by drilling four small holes and setting four screws in each corner of the floor of the box into the plywood.
To save on shipping costs with the Hawk box, some assembly will be required by the purchaser. This simply involves mounting the vent cover on the top of the box, which can be installed within minutes. All materials are included, and all holes are pre-drilled.
Philosophically, I believe people should take responsibility for the things they build, and for the things they break. So here's my guarantee: If it's my fault, I'll fix it or replace it at no charge. If it's not, I'll charge you for it.
I'll take full responsibility for the workmanship and materials that go into a Hawk box. If one comes back to me and it's my fault, I'll fix it. If, on the other hand, your letter says it broke while on a hawking trip, and you don't know why, but I notice it looks as though its been thrown off of a 1000 foot cliff, you'll probably get a call from me asking if you sent the right box. My warranty says that I believe in your basic honesty, and that I don't expect to pay for your mistakes. This warranty covers the original purchaser for one year and does not cover damage caused by modifications made to the box, other than drilling holes in the floor to mount the box to a wood base.
When transporting a raptor in the Hawk box, or when transporting any live animal inside a closed container, never allow the confined animal to sit in direct sun light, or in a closed, unvented vehicle.
The Hawk box has been designed and built for trained birds. If a bird is not familiar with a "giant hood" or is not fully manned, care should be taken when you introduce the bird to the box. It is suggested that the bird be fitted with hunting jesses while it is in the box. Long jesses, when attached to a swivel, could possibly hang up over the perch frame and entangle the bird. It is also recommended that you not leave a leash attached, while a bird is inside the box.
