REMEMBER WHEN:
You played hide and seek until dark.
Sitting on the porch and eating hot bread-and-butter.
Lunch tickets,
Jacks, kick ball, Dodge ball, Mother may I? Red Rover.
Wax lips and mustaches.
Running in the sprinkler.
Listening to the lone ranger on the radio, the Texaco Star theater.
Catching lightning bugs in a jar.
Going downtown seem like going somewhere.
Climbing trees, one million mosquito bites and sticky fingers.
Running until you were out of breath.
Being tired from playing.
When there were two types of sneakers and the only time you
wore them at school was for gym.
When a quarter was an allowance and would get you into the movies
and buy your drink and popcorn WITH CHANGE LEFT OVER.
When all your male teachers wore ties
and female teachers had their hair done every day.
When any parent could discipline any kid, or feed him or use him
to carry groceries, and nobody, not even the kid, thought a thing of it.
When it was considered a great privilege to be taken out to eat dinner
at a real restaurant.
When there were no fast food places.
When they threaten to keep kids back a grade if they failed, and did!
When being sent to the principal's office was nothing compared to the
fate that awaited a misbehaving student at home.
