MAKING YOUR OWN QUILT LABELSBy Wendy Ann WoodI love to make quilts but struggle with getting them completely finished. For the last month or two I have forced myself to go through my UFO (Unfinished Objects) pile and complete projects that I have started in the last two years. The result has been the total completion of four or five quilts! I have several more that are in the various stages of being almost done. By the end of this month, I am hoping to have them all done. When I finished hand stitching the binding of the first UFO, I realized I needed to put a quilt label on the back of the quilt. I have hated doing this in the past because I do not like my handwriting and I wanted a more artistic flair to them then just muslin and Pigma pen in my handwriting. My solution was to go into the graphics software I use for making the foundation piecing patterns and create a quilt label. Here is an example of what I did. I was able to get four labels on a 8.5 x 11" piece of paper if I turned them sideways. For printing (PLEASE READ YOUR OWNERS MANUAL TO SEE IF YOUR PRINTER CAN DO THIS) I cut sheets of freezer paper into size and ironed some fabric on the freezer paper using a warm iron without steam. Then I fed the "paper" through the manual feed on the printer and it made four great fabric labels for me to use. I cut them apart and sewed them on the finished quilts. I change the title of each piece and note where and when it was made. If you have made a quilt label like this, please share it with us! I would love to see more here than just mine. If you have other ideas for quilt labels then share that as well!
