Minus Points - Some trivia concerning The Avengers

* In the season one story "Diamond Cut Diamond" there is a scene where Steed has cauliflower pushed into his face by Keel for 17 minutes!

* During the filming of the episode "Killer" there was a delay while the crew waited for a frenzy of adders to be quiet.

* The sets for the episode "The House That Jack Built" were actually the interior of a new public toilet designed for a gallery in Glasgow, Scotland. The council threw it out because the decor put-off customers, so ABC bought it.

* Sixteen scones were eaten during the whole of season 2, but only one in the whole of season 3!

* Contrary to popular belief, Tara does not use the garden rake to comb her hair in the episode "All Done With Mirrors." (I know, i've watched it twice through to check.)

* When played backwards, the theme from The Avengers (season 4) can be heard to contain the sound of a hat being smothered.

* Traces of oakum can be seen in all seasons apart from season 3. Brian Clemens cannot explain why.

* In China, a "Lobster Quadrille" is a military manoeuvre.

* Dr Martin King from season 2 never used the word "trite" in any of his scenes.

* There is a tribe in South America who have only just been introduced to television. Apparantly they only show one programme - a copy of "From Venus With Love" edited down to 11 minutes.

* Before screening repeats of the Honor Blackman episodes, TV channels are required to wash them in bile. It's the law.

* When The Avengers was shown in Canada recently, Venus Smith was renamed "Bruce" - all her episodes had to be redubbed with a man's voice.

* Steed's bowler hats always had the word "crayon" sewn into the inside.

* If you take the first letter of each story from the Tara King season and rearrange them, you can spell "KING ATE MOUNT ETNA ZSDEEBBBAHI."

* In the episode "Dead Man's Treasure", you can hear a dove in the background.

* The toys used in "Escape In Time" were stuffed with felt.

* "The Hour That Never Was" has never been screened in Poland after 10pm.

* In 1997, a man from Bolton in the UK was assualted on the way home from the pub on a Saturday night by a youth brandishing the briefcase box from the Lumiere "Avengers First Ever Episodes Collection."  No one knows why.

* The Times newspaper featured a crossword in May 1992 which included the answers "Thorson" (2 across), "Wears" (17 down) and "Wigs" (13 across)

* Rumours that Patrick Macnee decided to emulate Honor Blackman and release a book for men entitled "How To Keep Young And Beautiful" are completely unfounded.

* The episode "False Witness" featured the first ever appearance on British television of a Brown#57 door handle. Check out the episode and see for yourself.

* At a party to launch the release of videos of The Avengers in 1993, Patrick Macnee was seen to put four sticks of celery into his back pocket and then bounce up and down on a chair.

* The working title for The Avengers was "Da Da." (It was the name of Sydney Newman's rabbit.)

* If all the spools of film used to record the Diana Rigg episodes were stretched-out, stuck together and pulled in opposite directions, it would be a complete waste of time and prove nothing.
