Pat finishes up 2002 season...

Being the warrior that he is, anyone could have guessed that Pat would make it back quicker than expected from Tommy John surgery. Sure, he wasn't his usual self, but give the man a break, he has a reconstructed elbow. Check out the following links to see how he fared this year:

Now there's no doubt that Pat will return full force in 2003 and again strike fear in the hearts of major league hitters.

Ahhhhh but one question remains......whose jersey will Pat be wearing as he demolishes line-up after line-up in 2003?? Pat could potentially be a free agent, and there's talk that he'll re-sign with Baltimore.

But there's also been some rumblings that JP Ricciardi might bring Pat back to Toronto for another tour. Pat himself commented "Everybody knows I loved playing (in Toronto)". So who knows?

If you have your own thoughts about where Pat should play next year, go ahead and leave em in the guestbook.

Rob Edelman's "Baseball on the Web" recognizes the Pat Hentgen Page!

Rob Edelman's book entitled "Baseball on the Web" listed the Pat Hentgen Page as one of the top baseball websites on the Internet. The book only selected websites it considered to be the most fact-filled, most enjoyable, and most unique on the web.

Thanks Rob for recognizing us, and check out the book for yourself on Amazon (I picked up my own copy, it's pretty neat).

Traded!

cards logo November 11th, 1999 was one of the worst days in recent memory for batters in the National League, as they learned that Pat Hentgen had been traded to the St. Louis Cardinals. Understandably distraught by the news, National League hitters were unavailable for comment following the trade and were rumored to be hiding in their basements, crying for their Mommies.

On a more serious note, Jays fans everywhere were deeply saddened to hear of the trade and wish to thank Pat from the bottom of their hearts for everything he has done for the city and team. Besides, we all know that Pat will be wearing a Blue Jays t-shirt under his Cardinals jersey anyway. Nothing will change here at the Pat Hentgen Page...this webpage, along with Pat's glorious career, will continue to flourish as he dons Cardinal red.

star Pat Hentgen: 1997 All-Star star

As we all expected, Pat Hentgen, the 1996 Cy Young winner, was selected to his third All-Star game by Yankee Manager Joe Torre. Pat himself though wasn't as certain that he would be picked to play at Cleveland's Jacobs Field on July 8th:

"I thought I was one of the guys on the bubble," said Hentgen, "I'm a little surprised because a lot of pitchers are having some really good years."
Pat's numbers however weren't too shabby. At the time of his selection, he was leading the league in innings pitched, complete games, and shutouts to go along with his 8-5 record and 3.11 ERA. He also had an amazing stretch of 40 scoreless innings. The only question now is will Joe Torre be smart enough to give the start to Pat!

King of the Hill: The 1996 Cy Young Winner

Many "experts" were favoring Yankee starter Andy Pettitte to win the award, but Pat Hentgen had the last laugh when he was awarded pitching's highest honor, the 1996 American League Cy Young Award. Hentgen, quite simply the most dominating pitcher in the AL this year, became the first player from a Canadian team (and not just any Canadian team) to win the award.
