IT WORK THROUGH MY AMP?
| In a word: Yes. The Honker was designed to sound good through a PA system; where you usually don't expect any tonal color. (breakup,
distortion, crunch, etc.) If you have an amp that can provide some tone of its own, so much the better.
With such an amp, you may find that the Honk control doesn't change the sound as much as it does through a "cleaner" amp or PA. |
WHAT'S WITH THE BOX?
| The box is needed for all Honkers. It has the battery (9-Volt) and some electronics. The microphone element is an "electret" condenser microphone and needs a voltage to work. The electronic stuff makes the Honk sound and also runs off the battery. The Battery I use is an ULTRALIFE Lithium battery . It's just like an ordinary 9-Volt "transistor" battery except it lasts 4 to 5 times as long. The Honker was designed to draw VERY tiny power to take advantage of this long life, and can last 3 to 5 YEARS. |
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE BATTERY DOES FAIL?
| For Honkers without the HEARAMP earphone amplifier, battery failure is fairly subtle. As the battery voltage dips below about 7 Volts, you'll start to hear less and less difference between the 'Clean' and the 'Honk'
sounds. That is, the Clean will become more "edgy" and and the Honk begins to lose that rich, warm 'Brown' tone. Overall volume will degrade when the voltage is below about 5 Volts. At around 3 Volts, the Honker will
produce sound; it will be more like what you get through a guitar "Fuzz-Tone", but you can still be heard. With the HEARAMP, you get a battery monitor in addition to the personal sound monitor. When the Blue LED begins to flash, you'll have at least a couple gigs left; when it stops (and stays out) you'll have plenty of time to finish the gig you're playing. (6 Hrs.) For replacement, ANY 9-Volt "transistor" battery, with the snaps, will work fine. Radio Shack has the Ultralife Lithiums if you are compelled. ($11) |
I HAVE BIG (small) FINGERS!?
| The finger hole is 7/8 of an inch. (22mm) I can make it a LITTLE bigger, maybe a millimeter all around but if you need it smaller, just let me know and I can make it as small as you need. |
