Almost everyone loves a mystery and I am no different.

The history of the 1865 Trial of the so-called "Lincoln Conspirators" is a fascinating one, as is the story of the conspiracy and it's ultimate tragic consequence, the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln.  A Confederate plan implemented in January of 1865 to kidnap the President in return for the exchange of Confederate prisoners of war ultimately turned deadly in April of that year and with the assassination and subsequent capture of those involved, one of the most intriguing trials of the 19th Century began.

Equally fascinating was the press coverage of the time, an early tabloid style of journalism which dwelt mostly upon sensationalism.  After four years of bloody, mind-numbing civil war, the general public sought diversion of a different order.  An eager populace followed the daily aspects of the trial and its proceedings.

Come with me then, back in time to 1865 and explore some of the more interesting, personal aspects of the 1865 Conspiracy Trial.
