MIME (and other format) Decoding Programs

SNAPPY Software The makers of Wincode, a Windows decoder that can handle MIME, UUE, and other files. The latest version of Wincode - currently 2.7.3c - can be downloaded from this page.

• Step-by-step instructions on installing Wincode and decoding MIME files.

ALADDIN SYSTEMS, INC. This company produces Windows and Macintosh  UUE/MIME/HQX encoding, decoding, and archiving (.ZIP, .SIT, etc.) software.

MPACK, a DOS MIME decoder that I will reccommend, and for which I have written step-by-step instructions on installing and decoding MIME files.

IRC (Internet Relay Chat) Client Programs

Windows and Windows '95:

• mIRC  Besides having a very good IRC client, the mIRC Home Page also has plenty of information geared towards people who are new to IRC.

Macintosh:

• IRCle at an FTP site.  Downloadable in binary or binhex form.

DOS:

• Various clients.  Unfortunately, this FTP site doesn't have any text descriptions of the clients.  Does anyone have any recommendations as to which client is best?

Other Utilities & Programs

LVIEW PRO - this Windows graphics viewer can handle GIFs, JPGs, and just about every other common graphics format.

SOUNDAPP - a freeware Macintosh program which will play WAV files.

The QUEST (Qualcomm Enterprise Software Technologies) Group FTP site has freeware versions of Eudora, a mail program which can download and decode attached MIME files. Eudora is available for:

• Macintosh
• Windows

Alchemy Mindworks has a nifty shareware program called "GIF Construction Set" with which you can assemble animated GIFs like the logo on the main page.

General Software FTP Sites

SIMTEL has loads and loads of shareware and freeware programs in their FTP archive. You can find programs for:

• Windows
• Windows '95, and
• DOS (including MIME decoders)

The University of Texas Mac Archive contains a lot of Macintosh programs and utilities.
