Hope Campbell

Douglas and Mary Campbell could not have been more proud on October 10. They had a daughter. Never mind the fact that Mary had not given birth to the child. The fair-haired, dark-eyed baby was an answer to prayers long since given up on .. a blessing from the gods. And so they named the little foundling Hope, for she had taught them never to give up hope.

Hope Malynn Campbell was a normal child. Her mother tried desperately to teach her how to be a proper lady and take care of a home, but Hope failed miserably at learning the lessons. Hope would much rather have followed her father around constantly. She wanted to wear comfortable clothes instead of dresses; she wanted to hunt dinner instead of cook it. The one thing her parents were able to instill in her were their strong beliefs in the Clan Campbell. Ne Obliviscaris! The Clan Campbell motto means "forget not", and Hope would never forget her upbringing, her loyalty to her family and friends and her loyalty to her Clan.

Douglas and Mary loved their daughter as if she were their very own, never telling her any different until she was about 16 years old. Every time Hope looked in a mirror, she knew she did not look like her parents, but as they loved her and she loved them, she never gave it a second thought. Douglas and Mary were both fair-skinned, where Hope always had a perpetual golden glow to hers. They had red hair and blue eyes, where she had hair the color of spun gold and eyes of a deep chestnut hue. Soon enough, she started to ask her parents questions, and although it was tempting for them to lie to her, they told her the truth. Little difference it made to Hope for Douglas and Mary were the only parents she knew.

Marriages for most young women of Hope's age were being arranged, but no one ever approached Douglas about his daughter. She, however, was content with remaining in the village with her parents instead of venturing out on her own. When she was 25, they decided to make a journey to the New World. Excited about the prospect of new lands and new people to meet, they set out across the waters on board a great ship to make a fresh start. None of them could have known that Douglas and Mary would never set foot on dry land again, or that Hope would never die.

Coughing and gasping for a breath of air, someone pulled her into a small boat. What had happened to her? Everyone around her was dead, including her parents. She remembered the icy water rising above her head and everything going dark. Yet, she still lived and she had no idea why.

Standing on a busy street in what she thought to be the New World, Hope suddenly was alone for the first time in her life in a strange new land. Those new people that had once excited her were now strangers watching her, yet no one approached her. At times, she would get an odd sensation that felt almost like a buzzing in her head. She thought she was going mad, but simply wanted to find a place to get warm and get a bite to eat. Tired, cold and hungry, she pulled open the door to a tavern, hoping that someone would offer her some kindness. The buzzing sensation, almost to the point of pain, hit her as soon as she crossed the threshold. The only other soul present was a young, beautiful woman with long, flowing red hair. Cheyenne MacLeod became Hope's first contact in her journey into this strange land known as Rhydin . . .

When in Rhydin, Hope spends most of her time at the
Last Chance Inne
with her beloved soulmate and husband,
