April 1st, 1999: Oh man I'm being set up!
Ok, I'll just pretend that I didn't read that on Adels page.. didn't mention I got my butt kicked.. I guess saying I had my share of lemons doesn't count.. ok, I lost some games in Shoggo to Adel. But not all of them I might add. and certainly not by 30 odd frags either!  Not to mention that I've never played the Chaos DM mod before this weekend in Quake 2 (hell, I had never even heard of it before Friday night!)  You'll notice that in all that Hypo bashing, he didn't mention I needed any of Chaos' turrets to win by 21 frags on an original Q2DM map...lava, yea, ok... now that we're talking smack, I guess I'll have to add for the May beating, I'll have to actually load Quake 2 onto my system out of its 5 month dormancy and play some Eraser bot bashing to warm up for this match.. unlike the weekend when I hadn't played a HUMAN opponent in 6 months or more, and no bot action in almost as long... I'll be ready willing and able to defend that score.. can't speak for warming up in Shoggo tho - my old system can't handle it unfortunately.. guess I'll have to break down and buy another PC before I go too.. only thing that's worse, Adel will have all his weekly buddies over to ambush me this time.. or maybe I'll prove that they're just weakly buddies... = D

March 30th, 1999: Alpo Con III - Hypo's Revenge
This weekend having ended was yet another of great match-ups between Adelusion and myself, this time at a mutual friends house in Kansas City (Mr. Evil for those in the know). Adel flew in from Chicago, whilst I made the drive from Omaha. We picked up Adel from the airport just before 9pm, bought the appropriate provisions from Taco Bell for the evening, then settled in for a grueling 7 hours of Deathmatch across many games that night, only to be followed by uncountable hours over Saturday and Sunday - stopping only to eat and to venture forth to buy a new mother board for one of the systems (hey, we don't know our own strength some times!). We also stopped briefly for a few hours on Saturday night for a few rounds of Magic: the Gathering, but that story belongs in my long neglected Magic section of my page (yet un-updated since last October I might add). Of the many games we played, the more favorites definitely include Shadow Warrior, Quake 2, Blood, Total Annihilation, Star Craft, and my personal favorite for the weekend, Shoggo (anyone know, is there Bots for that game?). All games were played across local LAN, with the slowest machine being a 300, and the others in the 400 family. Pretty much all the games were a good mix of close fought matches, though this time, I finally extracted my revenge on Adel for the beatings he handed me when we tested Gothic DM and Gothic DM 2, with a Chaos DM game of Quake 2 on Sunday ending with myself at 10 Frags and him at his all time low of -11... but wait there's more another game played on Friday night ended with Mr. Evil and Adel in the 30's , and myself in the 70's (same game setup)... I certainly felt good about it, (and I heard the disapproval from them for the next 48 hours I might add). Other than those 2 massacres, most of the other games were close, but I had my share of lemons too. Overall I think we all had a great time, and I can't wait for the three of us to go at it again. I'll have a chance at Adel in early May, as I'm looking to take a weekend flight to his place for a little r&r (really, fragging is relaxing!).
On Doom news, my level for Mordeth ep3 is coming together nicely - if my editor doesn't explode from too many line defs soon anyway. I need to get some links on this page updated.. everyone moved around again.. also I may be scheming something with Martin from the Doomshack concerning an older unreleased DM map of mine... I just have to find the time to update it to a new engine mod and Its off to him for further "enhancement". Time will tell. I noticed a while back that Wildman Rick Clark mentioned on his page that he thought he wasn't as talented at gothic architecture as Adel and myself - liar! You are the man Rick, never sell yourself short like that! (but thanks for the compliment ; D) Rick continues to blow peoples minds with his high quality work across more gaming platforms than I have currently installed on my PC...

GothicDM was my debut to the Doom 2 community. Along with all the other artists involved, we made a 32 level set of Deathmatch only maps that continue to knock the socks off everyone that gets their hands on it! If you haven't seen it, click the logo above for screen shots, or, grab a copy now:

Hey, we had so much fun doing the first, how could we not have done a sequel... and who knows what may still be in store...
During the course of GDM2, Adelusion dropped some kind words about me.. as well as a map as a tribute in my honor as well. I was quite humbled by the experience, I must say. If you want to know just why he did these things, you can read about them here.
