Jamelia's Stargazing Page 2

Lest you think I'm only interested in Robbie, let me show you a few pictures of some of the other stars of Voyager that I've had the chance to visit. Roxann Dawson, who plays B'Elanna Torres, Tom Paris' love and the "T" in P/T.

I first met Roxann at a convention in Philadelphia on Labor Day weekend, 1997. She had a gathering of her fan club at a breakfast in the hotel on Sunday morning. I was a fan club neophyte then, but I knew a nice person when I met her. The gift is a birthday gift, treats for her dogs. Roxann wasn't letting on then what only a few people knew at the time. She was in her fourth month of pregnancy when this picture was taken. Your Auntie was suspicious, though, when Roxann said that for "personal reasons," she wasn't going to direct that season--even though every interview I'd read before said she was hot to direct. And then she kept rubbing her hand over her belly unconsciously from time to time in a very "pregnant woman" mode. I wasn't surprised when the pregnancy was announced several weeks later.

In November, 1997, Roxann's fan club held a baby shower for her during her appearance there at United Fan Con in Springfield, Massachusetts. Here she is displaying the bib I made for her daughter, Emma. When I gave Robbie the bib for Carter, he said, "Isn't that sweet of you." Roxann's comments were far more practical: "Now, can I just throw this into the washing machine?" Vive la difference!

When I saw Roxann at Novacon in Virginia in July, 1998, she was back in good shape after having Emma. Although this picture didn't get exposed quite properly, the look on Roxann's face as she shares her baby's picture with the audience is so perfect--such a proud mom shot--I couldn't help putting it up here. Best wishes to all of you, Roxann, Eric, and baby Emma!

Here's Auntie Jam and Roxann at Novacon. It's a great picture of Roxann, taken by Ann Harding. Your Auntie's double chin shows here, but I do like this picture of myself as well. This is the face, I must reluctantly admit, that I see when I look in the mirror. A lot of times, I can't say that!

You may think that I only have seen Robbie and Roxann, judging from the above. I've seen Robert Beltran, too, but my camera wasn't working that day, so I have no pictures. I've seen Garrett Wang a few times, however. I've got evidence of seeing him!

I first saw Garrett at Vulkon, Raleigh, in January, 1998. He's a riot. He does a little nightclub act, sort of, as well as a Q&A.

Monica from D.C. (no, not that one) took this picture of me with Garrett at the "Dealer's Room Con" that took place on Friday night. No, it wasn't planned. A group of us were kind of wandering around before going to bed that night and happened into the Dealer's Room, where they were setting up for the morrow. One guy selling pictures said he'd be glad to take our money that night so we could avoid the crush the next day. Thanks to that delay, we were still in the room when Garrett walked in to look around. A few of the dealers and about a half-dozen of our group got a chance to ask Garrett some questions. Yes, this is the historic time when Monica from NY (who "doesn't get out much"--after all, you can get just about anything delivered in NYC!) was confused about what a certain gel-like substance was that was used for special effects on Star Trek, as well as its intended use for personal lubrication. When she finally figured out what he was getting at, we all had a good laugh, especially Garrett and Monica.

Here's a nice picture I got to take of Garrett at a con in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, a few weeks after I saw him in Raleigh.

At Valley Forge, Garrett posed with a group of us who were his "unofficial fan club" members, since he doesn't have a sanctioned club at this time. At Valley Forge, an audience member informed Garrett that the "elbow story" had been told by Jeri Ryan on Conan O'Brien's Show. "On nationwide TV? She told that story on TV? Oh, man!" he said. However, he's actually learned to take the story in stride, since it isn't likely to ever go away. In fact, the reason we're grinning so broadly is that the person taking this shot with my camera didn't say, "Say cheese." He said, "Elbow!" Garrett is another really nice guy.

That's about it for now. The only one I have left is this one, to remind you to be kind to your trout--or at least, cook'em when they're fresh.
