To Our Iranian Compatriots
The question of democracy and social justice in Iran is one that belongs to
and has to be determined by the Iranian people only.
Today, the issue of social justice is directly tied to the struggle
against neo-liberalism and US-inspired policies that aim to privatize the very
gains of the Iranian people and sell out the future of our grandsons and great
grandsons to global institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF),
the World Bank, and other transnational entities, such as Bechtel
Corporation, Halliburton, and others.
The question of democracy is directly tied to the fight against outside
intervention and militarism.
Dear brothers and sisters:
The neo-conservatives in power in the United States today are much despised
by a good section of the American population. They have seized power, not
through democratic means but by resorting to fraud, subversion of the American
Constitution, and outright criminal acts. Such a government has no power or
intention of bringing about democracy in Iran, Iraq, or anywhere else
in the world. Their allies are brutal dictatorships such as those in Saudi
Arabia, Jordan, or Colombia.
Under such circumstances, we invite all fellow Iranians to unanimously
condemn any possible intervention by the government of the United States in the
affairs of Iran. We also condemn the belligerent conspiracies of the regime of
apartheid in Israel.
Obviously, we support the struggles of the people of Iran for democracy
and social justice, but we emphasize that these struggles are directly tied
to the fight against US intervention and against neo-liberalism. Today,
our brothers and sisters in Turkey, Argentina, or Brazil are clearly
witness to the fact that "democracy" without social justice is nothing but an
empty and meaningless cliche.
