The Iranian-American Community (IACUS) strongly condemns the new round of the US-dominated UN Security Council sanctions against the people of Iran. We consider these sanctions imperialist efforts aimed at pressuring the Iranian government to submit to the will of the Western Neo-Liberal rule. They are also a futile attempt to deny the Iranian people the technology that would further pave the way towards their independence and sovereignty.

This is not the first time the colonial powers have been attempting to keep the oil-rich Iran poor and dependent. In the early part of the 19th century, when the Iranian people attempted to bring the railroad to the country, they were denied that by the colonial powers. Despite their opposition, when World War II broke out and the Allied forces invaded Iran, they found the railroad quite useful, but when the people communicated their desire to bring the steel industry to Iran, time and again they were told Iran did not need the steel industry. Iran's steel industry project was time and again turned down by the World Bank and other Western institutions and governments. It was only decades later, in 1965 when the Iranians were able to establish the steel plant in Esfahan with the assistance of the Soviet Union.

Despite such conspiracies, the people of Iran were able to achieve their goals and ambitions. Today, just as in the past, imperialist governments of the United States, Britain, France, and Germany continue to conspire against the people of Iran, still trying to keep us poor and dependent, but the sun has set on the British and other empires, and the people of the Middle East, South America, Africa, and elsewhere are all standing up to the rule of colonialism.

US Defense Secretary, Robert Gates is the yes-man hired by the Bush administration to fabricate Iran's "Weapons of Mass Destruction" tale, this one being the tale of Iran assisting the Iraqi insurgents. Twenty-some years earlier, Gates was deeply involved in the subversion of the US laws: the Iran-Contra affair. Gates' collaboration with Israel's Likud Party, the sale of arms to Iran and the support of bands of Nicaraguan terrorists known as the Contras is fully detailed in the book "Profits of War - Inside the Secret US-Israeli Arms Network" (Sheridan Square Press, NY) by former Israeli Intelligence Officer Ari Ben-Menashe.

America is today facing the Bush administration's "Weapons of Mass Destruction" Redux. This time the lies are aimed at Iran, and once again the US corporate media is collaborating with the White House in planning and orchestrating another crime. Will humanity remain silent?

Iran is a signatory to the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty. Article IV-1 of the treaty reads as follows: "Nothing in this Treaty shall be interpreted as affecting the inalienable right of all Parties to the Treaty to develop research, production and use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes without discrimination."

IACUS joins immigrant communities across the US in condemning George Bush's decision to militarize the US-Mexican border under the pretense of stopping "illegal" immigration. This "wall of shame" is a reminder of the "wall of apartheid" erected by the Israeli government to keep the Palestinian refugees isolated and under control.

IACUS strongly condemns the Bush administration's war moves against Iran, in particular, the US corporate media's full collaboration (see our open letter to Reporters Without Borders and the US Committee to Protect Journalists below) in this illegal and immoral effort.

In a region dominated by the most horrific dictatorship (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) and one with the most weapons of mass destruction, including a nuclear arsenal (i.e. the government of Israel), we condemn any attempts on the part of the Bush regime to interfere in Iran's affairs under bogus nuclear excuses.

Portuguese Nobel Literature laureate Jose Saramago has stated that Israeli repression in occupied territories is similar to Nazi practices during the Holocaust. With a delegation in Ramallah of the International Writers Parliament, Saramago called Israeli repression of the Palestinian people "the most perverse form of apartheid."

* FBI/CIA Conspiring Against US - Recent documents obtained and published by San Francisco Chronicle journalist Seth Rosenfeld clearly demonstrate FBI and CIA's central role in toppling UC Berkeley president Clark Kerr as well as spying on student activists during the turbulent years of the Vietnam War. Clearly, those who orchestrate coups in third-world countries (such as the one against the democratic government of Dr. Mossaddegh in Iran) do not sit quietly with respect to the politics inside the US.
