MEETING PROGRAMME - 2008

The Society holds two meetings a month.  The first takes place on the second Tuesday of the month, at the Hayloft, Erewash Museum, High Street, Ilkeston, Derbyshire.  Click here for a finder map.  A more detailed finder map (in PDF format) can be found here.

Starting at around  7:45pm, Members are entertained with talks on various astronomical topics by the more experienced Members, or by an invited Guest Speaker.  The talks are wide ranging, covering such subjects as simple naked-eye observing, through to theoretical cosmology. Refreshments are available throughout the evening, and  meetings usually finish at around 10:00pm.

Our second meeting is held on the last Wednesday of each month at the Visitor Centre, Shipley Country Park, Slack Lane, Heanor, Derbyshire (click here for a finder map).  Starting at 7:45pm in the Green Room, these meeting are a very informal get-together, and focus on more practical astronomy.   No additional speakers are arranged for these meetings, and this allows the Society to devote more time to beginners and those less knowledgable members.  The meeting should also allow us to do some casual observing (weather permitting), with all the usual amenities close at hand.

We also arrange occasional observing sessions (if the weather permits), and  these are usually held on Friday  or Saturday evenings at Shipley Country Park.  These observing sessions are very popular with Members, especially around the time of special events, like meteor showers or lunar eclipses, etc.
