8:00 a.m. - Prayer Breakfast honored WW II Veterans from Bolingbrook and those who are members of American Legion Post #1288 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5917

1:00 p.m. - Memorial Service at the Bolingbrook Veterans Memorial, 375 W. Briarclif Dr. which honored those WW II veterans who are now deceased

Twenty-nine WWII veterans received Certificates of Apprecation through this effort. Sixteen were present at the Breakfast to personally receive their certificate. Those receiving a certificate are listed below ( * indicates presence at ceremony).

A special thanks to:

  • The Golden Coral - For providing the space without charge, opening their doors to us early to permit setup, and providing a special price for the breakfast.

  • Mayor Roger Claar - For underwriting the breakfasts for the WW II veterans and their guest

  • The Romeoville High School Marine Corps Jr. ROTC for providing the color guard and escort services for each veteran as they received their certificate.

  • Wal-Mart in Bolingbrook for donating the wood and glass frames used for the certificates.

  • Bolingbrook Community Television (BCT6) for recording the event and airing it for community viewing

  • Award Emblem for discounting the cost of the commemorative plaque presented to the village for permanent display.

  • VFW Post 5917 for providing each veteran with the official WWII Memorial Dedication commemorative pin and for sharing the remaining cost of the commemorative plaque with Post 1288.
