The
A-Team Files
UPDATE
September
27th 2006
It
looks like 2006 is the Year of
the A-Team! Season three was released
on DVD January 31st. Season four
was released in April 2006. The
fifth and final season will
be out on October 10th 2006. A
(sort of) reunion
show was broadcast in the
UK. Mr. T has a new TV show (I
Pity the Fool) and Dwight
Schultz has conquered the airwaves.

Three
US cable channels have picked
up the show. NBC Universal launched
a new cable network on January
1st 2006 called Sleuth.
The A-Team will be one of their
flagship shows airing three times
daily. Here's the schedule.
If you're not getting this channel
contact your local cable or satellite
provider to suggest they carry
it. That's what I did and now
my provider, DirecTV, has added
Sleuth to their line up. TVLand
has also picked up the A-Team
once again. It airs weekdays at
11:00am (ET) and sporadically
at other times. SpikeTV
will begin showing the A-Team
again in October 2006.

His

Despite

says. "If I'm feeling

Mr.
T, TV Land 'Pity the Fool'

LOS ANGELES (from Zap2it.com)
"The
A-Team" may or may
not ever take its place
in the pantheon of classic
TV shows, although viewers
of a certain age (that'd
be about 28 to 36, men in
particular) tend to remember
it fondly.
One of the show's stars,
though, may soon make it
onto classic-TV network
TV Land. Mr. T has signed
a deal to star in a pilot
for the channel called "I
Pity the Fool," in
which he'll dole out advice
and try to help people in
difficult situations. Lions
Gate TV is producing the
project.
It's
presumed that in the course
of helping people get their
lives right, no jibba jabba
will be allowed.
"We are very excited
to work with Mr. T and Lions
Gate on 'I Pity The Fool,'"
says Sal Maniaci, head of
development for TV Land.
"By putting Mr. T in
an unfamiliar environment,
viewers will have the experience
of seeing him back up his
famous words and attitude
with concrete actions."
"I Pity the Fool"
will find Mr. T acting as
a "motivational guru"
helping people improve their
personal and professional
lives. Mr. T will use his
own varied life experience
as basis for his strategy
to help others.
The
pilot is set to go into
production in October. Stephen
Belafonte ("Thank You
for Smoking"), Ken
Druckerman and Banks Tarver
("Growing Up Gotti")
will serve as executive
producers. |

EXCLUSIVE:
A-TEAM REUNITES ON SHOW
By Cameron Robertson
TV action heroes The
A-Team are to reunite in the new
year for a one-off special show.
Surviving
actors Dirk Benedict, Dwight Schultz
and Mr T will recall their memories
of the popular 80s series. An
insider said: "It's an amazing
coup to get them back together.
It will be great viewing, there
was fun and drama behind the scenes."
Comic
and DJ Justin Lee Collins will
present Bring Back... The A-Team
on Channel 4.
The
show ran from 1983 to 1987 with
98 episodes. It featured the antics
of four Vietnam veterans on the
run after being framed. Benedict
starred as Templeton Peck, Schultz
was "Howling Mad" Murdock
and Mr T played B.A. Baracus.
George
Peppard (team boss 'Hannibal'
Smith), died in 1994.

The
A-Team Film? Maybe, maybe not...
Excerpt from
IGN.com
Bruce Willis as Hannibal?
A-Team creator discusses feature
film.
by
IGN Staff
September 5, 2006
"We've
gone through a lot of scripts
that we haven't been happy with
for one reason or another. We
had one script writer who had
never even watched the show! The
studio was adamant about employing
him, but he just took the title
and began to write anything he
wanted, completely departing from
the original show. The studio
didn't like it and neither did
I."
The
new script will be a faithful
revision of the original A-Team
story, taking place in the present
time, however, and not in the
'80s. Instead of being Vietnam
veterans wrongfully pursued for
a crime, the team will be Gulf
War soldiers. The personalities
of the four leads have to be expected
to change a little as well; there's
only one Mr. T after all, and
few actors could pull off the
unique brand of insanity Dwight
Schultz ("Murdoch")
exhibited.

A
LITTLE DIRK BENEDICT NEWS
Dirk Benedict back in show business
By JIM SLOTEK -- From
The Toronto Sun
October 18th 2005
Dirk
Benedict is in Toronto shooting
a new sci-fi film for TV, Earth
Storm.
Professional
handsome guy Dirk Benedict, who
played Face on The A Team in the
'80s (as well as Starbuck in the
original Battlestar Galactica),
was here last week co-starring
in Earth Storm, a TV movie for
the U.S. Sci Fi channel. It breaks
a nine-year TV hiatus for Benedict.
Credit
his son George, 17, for talking
him into it. "I said 'I miss
acting, George. But if I resurrect
my career, I'm going to have to
spend time in L.A. with stupid
producers saying things like 'Didn't
you used to be blond?' And the
next thing you know, we'll be
having big conversations about
my hair.'
"And
George said 'Dad, your hair was
your career.'"*
Still
impossibly good-looking at 60,
Benedict's life changed in 1995
with a divorce in which he got
custody of his boys, George and
Roland (the latter a member of
the under-18 Western American
Olympic Soccer Team). He took
them home to Montana where he
raised them in a 900-square-foot
log cabin, feeding them "beans,
greens and vegetables" (Benedict
contracted prostate cancer in
his 20s and says he treated it
with a macrobiotic diet -- an
experience detailed in his book
Confessions
Of A Kamikaze Cowboy).
"People
think I'm a macho guy because
I smoke cigars and drink scotch,"
he says. "But for the last
nine years I've been Mr. Mom.
All my friends are soccer moms."
His
comeback actually began last year
in Germany after he appeared at
a sci-fi convention in Bonn. "There
was a writer-director there, 32
years old, who saw me and said
'That's who I want to be in my
movie.' The movie was Goldene
Zeiten by Peter Thorwath, a black
comedy about a crooked celebrity/charity
golf tournament where the celeb
-- an '80s American TV star --
is replaced by a drunken German
lookalike. Benedict plays both
roles, and ended up having to
learn 53 lines in German.
"It's
the greatest part I ever played,"
he says. It motivated him to act
again in Earth Storm, in which
he co-stars with Stephen Baldwin
in a tale of astronauts fixing
the Moon after it gets cracked
by a meteor impact. Ironically,
the man who was Starbuck is Earth-bound
in this film, playing a nasty,
misguided government official.
Speaking
of Starbuck, Benedict's soccer-mom
status didn't protect him from
accusations of chauvinism when
the new Battlestar Galactica series
started, with his old role given
to a woman (Katee Sackhoff).
"People
kept asking me about Starbuck
being a girl and I finally wrote
what I thought for a British magazine
called Dreamwatch. It was called
Starbuck: Lost In Castration,
and a lot of people got really
angry -- 'this chauvinist pig,
this angry bitter old actor, how
dare he?' It was about why you
can't have a character like Starbuck
in a show today -- a cigar-smoking,
drinking, womanizing lovable scoundrel.
The feminist movement got rid
of those guys. In the war against
masculinity, the only way that
character could work was to make
him a woman."
"Why
do you think The A Team is not
a film? The only way they could
do it today is with four girls
kicking ass.
"Dwight
(Schultz, who played A Team's
Howling Mad Murdoch) and I are
doing a radio show in Montana.
We're calling it 'Dirk and Dwight's
one-man show.' I play piano, he
sings, we do a few songs and we
discuss the politics of The A
Team -- how the liberal left went
after us, how the National Education
Association and teacher's unions
tried to get us off the air.
"Yet
all my fans today are 32-year-old
guys who watched it with mom and
dad. The teachers unions would
love to have it back now instead
of Paris Hilton having sex."
[*I'm
officially nominating this as
funniest line of the year.]

Col. John
"Hannibal" Smith
George Peppard
Character Description: Hannibal
was the leader of the A-Team and a professional
soldier. Hannibal was almost constantly
"on the jazz", which meant he was an adrenaline
junkie, not happy unless someone was trying
to kill him. He also liked to dress up
in disguises which you'd think any reasonably
intelligent person could see through.
He apparently developed this dubious skill
while pursuing his avocation as an actor
specializing in heavily costumed monsters,
notably the Aquamaniac.
Hannibal's True Love - Making smart-ass
remarks to the head bad guy.
|
Actor Summary:
George Peppard was born October 1st 1928
in Detroit Michigan. He started his film
career in the late 1950s. His breakout
hit was Breakfast at Tiffany's with Audrey
Hepburn. His film career continued to
go well throughout the sixties. In the
seventies he entered the realm of television,
starring as the ultra-cool Polish-American
detective, Banacek. Struggling with a
drinking problem he walked off that show,
but returned to the small screen in the
early eighties, in The A-Team. In the
early ninties he did some stage work,
but died of pneumonia May 8th 1994.

Sgt. Bosco
"B.A." Baracus
Mr.
T
Character Description: B.A. Baracus
was a big angry mudsucker with a heart
of gold. B.A. was the mechanical and electronic
expert for the team. He also tossed around
bad guys a lot better than the rest of
the team and occasionally came through
doors without opening them first. At heart
he was a big teddy bear, devoting his
off hours to helping children. B.A. was
very bad at disguises since he refused
to change his trademark hairstyle or lose
the fifty gold chains around his neck.
B.A.'s true love - The Van
|
Actor Summary:
Mr. T was born in Chicago, May 21st 1952,
the second to youngest in a very large
family. Eventually he became a professional
bodyguard, which led into his being cast
in Rocky III which in turn led
to his role on The A-Team and professional
wrestling as tag team partner with Hulk
Hogan. Diagnosed with cancer in 1995,
Mr. T now spends time visiting hospitals
and helping others dealing with the disease.

Lt. Templeton
"Faceman" Peck
Dirk
Benedict
Character Description: Face was
a con man nicknamed for his good looks.
Face was in charge of supplies, acquiring
whatever the team needed for their various
missions. An orphan (more or less) he
was nevertheless cursed with good taste,
in clothes, food, cars and women (more
or less). Any A-Team mission usually led
to his clothes being ruined, his car being
wrecked, his romantic interludes interrupted,
and burgers, if there was any food at
all. Face would whine about all these
things, but mostly about being the one
who most regularly got beat up.
Face's true love - Christine on Night
Court
|
Actor Summary:
Dirk, born in Montana, March 1st 1945,
started his career on stage. In the early
seventies he moved to Los Angeles and
won some movie roles, including the part
of a guy turning into a snake in "Ssssss"
and briefly the lead in a TV series, Chopper
One. He hit celebrity status in 1978
when he took on the role of "Starbuck",
in Battlestar Galactica. Though
still popular, even now, it was cancelled
after one season. A few years later he
was cast as "Face", on The A-Team.
After the series ended he had a number
of other movie roles. To find out more
about Dirk Benedict just visit his web
site and pick up his two volume, going

Capt.
H.M. "Howlin' Mad" Murdock
Dwight
Schultz
Character Description: Though some
people would have you believe that Murdock
is a crazy fool, he's not insane... not
really. He is the pilot for the A-Team
and is able to fly anything with wings
or blades. Unlike the rest of the team
he is not wanted by the Government. He
has a vivid imagination, a talent for
mimicry, and a stunning knowledge of Television,
Movies and Music. Please refer to The
Episode Guide for more on this character.

|
Actor Summary:
Dwight was born November 24th 1947 in
Baltimore Maryland. He worked on stage
in the seventies, from New York to Los
Angeles and points inbetween. In the early
eighties he began getting parts in television
and movies. 1983 he was cast as Murdock
in The-A-Team. After the series
ended he did lots of TV movies, episodic
guest roles, voiceover work and major
roles in a couple of feature films. Since
1990 he has had the recurring Star
Trek role (TNG and VOY) of "Reg Barclay."
