The Philadelphia Mixed Martial Arts Academy hosts a seminar with 6th degree BJJ black belt Carlos Machado on Saturday, June 5, at 12:00PM. It is not too often that a Machado comes to our area, so come find out for yourself why the Machado method of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the best. The seminar will take place at Carlos Machado’s official Philadelphia Representative, The Philadelphia Mixed Martial Arts Academy located at 1321 South Juniper Street (one street off Broad with free parking) in Philadelphia. World kickboxing champion Louis Neglia and Ray Longo presented their sixth installment of Ring of Combat last night to a sell out crowd of over 2,000 fans at the Rexplex Sports Complex in Elizabeth, New Jersey. In the second fight of the night, Eddie Alvarez of Philadelphia based Fight Factory defeated Adam Fearon of Pitt’s Penn by TKO (due to strikes) at 2:06 of Round 1. In the sixth fight of the night, Waynesburg native Josh Koscheck of American Kickboxing Academy earned the Unanimous Decision (29-27) win over Luke Cummo of Serra-Longo Competition Team. Both accomplished wrestlers are now 2-0 in MMA.

Grapplers Quest Men’s Team USA Trials Is Taking Shape: The Grapplers Quest Men’s Team USA Trials is taking shape, as we’re seeing some of the best submission grapplers in the United States confirming their spot in the May 22 tournament. A total of $3000 cash is up for grabs in 5 stacked divisions featuring veterans of Abu Dhabi and the Arnold-Gracie, and champions of the Abu Dhabi North American Qualifiers, the SWO, the Pam-Ams, Victory at Valley Forge, GQ Beast of the East, GQ Nationals and GQ West.

Pennsylvania will be well represented when James Brasco, Tim Carpenter, Ricardo Migliarese and Noah Spear hit the mats at Marist High School in Bayonne, New Jersey. Brasco is an Arnold-Gracie Pro Veteran with a 230-21 wrestling record, earning him a 2-Time Pennsylvania State Championship in Freestyle and 2-Time (Div I) Eastern Regional Conference Championship. Carpenter, of Balance Studios, is a Relson Gracie BJJ brown belt and Judo black belt, earning the 2002 Pan American Super Heavyweight Championship. Migliarese, a lead instructor at Balance Studios, is the 2004 GQ-Beast of the East Light-Heavy Advanced Champion and a 4-time Arnold-Gracie Champion. The Relson Gracie BJJ brown belt is also a World Champion medalist, a Pan American brown belt champion and a USA vs Brazil Champion. Spear, of High Level Jiu-Jitsu, is a Victory at Valley Forge Super Fight Champion. The Relson Gracie BJJ brown belt is also a Gracie Nationals champion and Pan American medallist.

Joe Priole Cancer Fund Benefit: Recently, Joe Priole was diagnosed with Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma. This form of cancer attacks the Lymphatic System, the disease fighting network that is spread throughout the body. About 54,000 cases are diagnosed annually in the United States and each year it accounts for approximately 24,000 deaths (50%) in the US.

Joe is an accomplished athlete who has given his time and abilities, often at no charge, to teach children to swim, self-defense classes for women and karate to those of all ages. Unfortunately, this disease is unbiased and unkind. The treatment that Joe must receive comes at a very high cost.

In honor of Joe's good will and big heart, his family and friends have put together a second event to raise funds for the treatments to save his life! It's just $15 at the door to get in and all proceeds will go to the Joe Priole Cancer Benefit. This cover includes a coverband, "Elkabong" and buffet set up on the patio. Several students were promoted at the beginning of the workshop, including Macdonald, who earned his blue belt. Berks County BJJ was represented by seven competitors at the RGDA tournament on Sunday, March 28, in Basking Ridge, NJ. Everyone who competed did a great job with many competing for the first time. The following students competed and placed in their respective white belt weight division -- Chris Snyder earned 1st Place, Greg Anderson earned 1st place, Mike Borrilez earned 2nd Place and Shane Mock earned 3rd Place.
