The Lancaster Family Martial Arts Center will host an MMA seminar with Pride veterans Murilo "Ninja" Rua and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua on Monday, January 16, 2006, from 6:30PM to 9:30PM at their Landisville academy, as part of a 2006 United States seminar series tour. The amazing cost is just $60.00 per person. The 25-year-old Ninja is a young Brazilian talent who has quickly shot up the ranks and is now recognized as one of the best fighters in his weight class. Ninja can terrorize his opponents with endless strikes from all angles, but if there is an opening he is more than capable of slipping in a sneaky submission. The 24-year-old Shogun is the 2005 Pride Grand Prix champion. He is an awesome striker and ferocious in the ring. The scariest part about Shogun is that he is one of the youngest fighters in the Pride, yet he already displays technical skill well beyond his years. The Rua brothers will go through the natural progress... stand up, clinching, takedowns, ground work, etc., showing techniques step by step with drilling and showing more of the training that made these Chute Boxe fighters international stars. Participants are encouraged to bring gloves, a cup, mouth piece, shin guards and pads. There will be a short break during the seminar with pictures and a Q&A after the seminar. Tour t-shirts and gear will be available for sale at the seminar. Lancaster Family Martial Arts Center is located in the Hempfield Shopping Center at 301 Main Street, Suite E. For more information, contact Mike Weisensee or call 717.898.6120.

A message from the First Lady of Boxing, Vernoca L. Michael, of Blue Horizon Boxing Promotions, Inc.: "On behalf of Blue Horizon Boxing Promotions, Inc. (BHBP) we wish to thank our patrons for all your support this season!! For the past four years, Blue Horizon Boxing Promotions, Inc. has featured a Children’s Holiday Show in December during which we invite children from several of the agencies in the Philadelphia Area to attend the boxing event as the guest of the BHBP. Also, we ask our patrons to bring a gift to this event for children between the ages of birth to 17 years of age for distribution. Each year at this time, the media showcases sports figures and others who give to Children’s Hospital and other noted facilities. Yet we found a community program right in our neighborhood whose parents are unable to provide gifts for their children and no one had contacted them to share anything with them. Fortunately, BHBP and its boxers became aware of this agency’s need and provided toys to them on Thursday, December 22, 2005, at The Legendary Blue Horizon at 5:30PM. We also took toys to some of the children at St. Christopher’s Hospital at 11:30AM the same day. Yes, the boxing community does care about its neighbors and its children. Visit our website to find out about our exciting 2005 and upcoming 2006 seasons. The boxing schedule for the 2006 season is February 10th, April 7th, June 2nd, September 15th, October 13th, and December 1st. Season and single event tickets are on sale now. Call us at 215-763-0500 or visit our website to purchase your tickets. Thank you, again, for your continued support. Stay safe and we will see you next year at the 9th Wonder of the World, The Legendary Blue Horizon." BHBP is located at 1314-16 North Broad Street in Philadelphia, PA 19121-4303. Contact them at 215.763.0500, 215.763.2202 (fax) or bluehorizon1@earthlink.net.

Philadelphia And Jersey Mixed Martial Arts announces success at the USKBA Action Sports Championships. The Muay Thai event was held Saturday night in Rahway, New Jersey. Here's a quick run down offered by Brad Daddis: "Muay Thai Domination! That is the only way to say it! Our team was on fire! New assistant instructor, Justin Greskowitz put on a Muay Thai clinic as he made his way to the finals and became the Champion of his division. He was our first champ of the day. Next, Alex Covington proved to us that he has the heart of a lion, winning his first match with the help of some brutal leg kicks to his opponent. First time fighter, Dave Tennet proved to us that he deserves not only to fight, but that he can do some damage in the ring. He looked like a veteran with great knees in the clinch. Assistant instructor Matt Makowski showed awesome power as he dominated both of his opponents to become the new Champion of his weight division. Matt "owned" his opponents and controlled two very tough and talented opponents with reletive ease. Great Day!!!" Philadelphia Mixed Martial Arts is located at 1321 South Juniper Street (off of Broad and Wharton), and features Cool Hearts Muay Thai and Lloyd Irvin Jiu-Jitsu. Their telephone number is 215.467.1008.

Pride veterans Murilo "Ninja" Rua and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua return to Philadelphia in January 2006 as part of a United States seminar series tour. Ninja is a young Brazilian talent who has quickly shot up the ranks and is now recognized as one of the best fighters in his weight class. Another awesome striker from the Team Chute Boxe Academy in Brazil (which includes Wanderlei Silva), Shogun, is ferocious in the ring. Ninja can terrorize his opponents with endless strikes from all angles, but if there is an opening he is more than capable of slipping in a sneaky submission. The scariest part about Shogun is that he is one of the youngest fighters in the Pride Fighting Championships, yet he already displays technical skill well beyond his years. The tour includes stops along the east coast in Taunton, Massachusetts, Washington DC, and New York City. Talks are in the works for a stop in Atlanta, Georgia, and the Chute Box fighters are seeking places on the west coast. Ninja and Shogun are both friendly guys, who are willing to teach and not hide any techniques. Those who attended past seminars know how good it is, and they will be glad to see all those on their next USA trip. For more information, contact Eduardo Alonso.
