Biography


        A native of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Tracey has been writing and arranging music since grade school. She earned a BS in Music Education from Bob Jones University, Greenville, South Carolina, where she was a composition student of Dwight Gustafson. She is currently working on her Master in Music Education degree from the University of Northern Iowa.
     Tracey left her position as Education Coordinator of the Dubuque Symphony in 1995 to pursue opportunities as instructor of music appreciation at Northeast Iowa Community College in Peosta, Iowa. She retains her position of principal violist with the Dubuque Symphony and String Quartet and has been the Symphony's head librarian since 1985.
     As Composer-in-Residence of the Dubuque Symphony's 1996-97 season, the DSO performed four of her works during the season as well as commissioning "Spirit of Freedom," a rousing concert fanfare which was chosen to be performed at the MENC 56th National Inservice , April, 1998, in Phoenix, Arizona.  Tracey is currently serving her second term as Chair of the Iowa Composers Forum, a 75-member non-profit organization for the promotion of new music in Iowa. Her other professional affiliations include the American String Teachers Association, Music Educators National Conference, the Kató Havas Association for the New Approach, the American Viola Society and ASCAP. 
     In addition to her private studio of over 20 string and composition students, Tracey is a composition mentor for the Dubuque Community School District. She has also recently joined the ranks of podium-perchers by forming the Dubuque Community String Orchestra for adult string players. A frequent poster on the internet orchestralist, Tracey lives in Dubuque with her husband and two musical teenage sons.
