IRISH AIRS

Welcome to Irish Airs the only website devoted exclusively to Irish Airmail.  The site is written and maintained by Bill Murphy, an accomplished collector of Irish philatelic material.  Those with an interest in Irish airmail are sure to find value here.  This site currently consists of:
  • Information Exchange - information about Irish airmail is provided and requested here. You can submit information or questions for this page.

  • Irish Airmail 1919-1990 - contains five updates to the book, originally published in June 1996.

  • Trading Post - where you can purchase or make trades for Irish airmail covers and other material. You can list items  for sale or trade here.

  • O.E.78. Bulletin of the Irish Airmail Society - contains the table of contents of the last six issues of the bulletin, and also announces some of the articles coming in the next issue.

  • Links - where you can find listed other websites containing information of interest to Irish airmail collectors.

Bill Murphy

Bill Murphy is a retired research scientist, now residing in San Jose, California.   For most of three decades, his main collecting interest has been Irish airmail.  These days, Bill devotes most of his philatelic efforts to writing about Irish Airmail..    

His book, Irish Airmail 1919-1990, was published jointly in June 1996 by the Irish Airmail Society and the Éire Philatelic Association. It describes all known mail carrying first flights to and from Ireland, starting with the first non-stop trans-Atlantic flight of Alcock and Brown in 1919, and continuing up through1990.     

In addition to this book, Mr. Murphy has written a series of booklets devoted to specialized areas of Irish aerophilately.  Six of these booklets have now been published:

    Irish Airmail - Balloon Posts, Rocket, Helicopter, Parachute and Glider Mail
    Irish Aerogrammes and Airgraphs

In 2000, Bill became editor of O.E.78., the Bulletin of the Irish Airmail Society.  This bulletin is published twice a year, in April and in October.
