History:
Israel News Online started as an adjunct to The Israel Hour radio program broadcast from Rutgers University. In 1991, during the Gulf War, The Israel Hour began a weekly news broadcast, in part to counter the biased and often erroneous reports issued by the international media - reports which often treated as true anti-Israel rhetoric, while ignoring or downplaying information which put Israel in a positive light. In late 1996 and early 1997, The Israel Hour began to offer its news via electronic mail to interested parties, and in mid-1997, the show set up a web site devoted to its news cast. That site provided the show's weekly newscast, plus links to a multitude of related sites. During the summer of 1997, The Israel Hour News Online covered its first breaking stories, a series of Arab terrorist bombings in Israel, in some cases beating American media (including a prominent satellite news network) to publication by several hours.
In mid-1998, the show's long-time Senior Host, and primary champion of the newscast, decided to "retire" from the show, to concentrate on family life as well as on managing The Israel Hour News Online.
In mid-1999, the new Senior Host decided to change the show's format to de-emphasize the news aspect and increase the amount of music the show could play. As a result, she decided that there was no longer a need for an online news service, and The Israel Hour News Online became history.
Still believing in the mission of Israel Hour News, the site's webmaster decided that it would live on in some other format, and thus, Israel News Online was born in mid-May 1999.
Who Are We?
We are a very small 100% volunteer organization. Our monthly polls are designed to make the reader consider issues from an Israeli point-of-view, as well as to convey information which the international news media often leave out of their news casts. We believe strongly in providing a pro-Israel voice in the media, and in countering the anti-Israel bias prevalent in most media outlets today. We are open to all suggestions about how best to accomplish that goal. If you wish to volunteer to help out, please let us know!
