FTM Wish List
Features and Functions
Autosourcing imported FTM files: Give the user the option of whether
or not to AutoSource FTM imports. There are lots of occasions when one
wants to merge their own files and do NOT want autosourcing.
Multiple Chapters of Notes. Add "Chapters of Notes" and/or add
Notes to Facts Fields. Individuals would then be able to store and catalog
wills, obituaries, census transcriptions, research notes, private notes
and other text in categories. Individuals would be able to name them
as they wish, include/exclude in reports as they wish.
Multiple Windows and Data Bases: Ability to have more than one
window open to a single data base, and more than one data base open, at
a time. Drag and drop transfers of individuals/lineages between files.
Global changes to names of people or locations
Fact Fields
-
Ability to order the way a user wishes. A move up or down bar would be
nice.
-
Add fast fields to the Fact Field name
Spouse Order. Ability to order spouses without forcing dates to
be entered - a simple move up or move down button would be nice.
Dual Dating. At the very least, with auto dual dating turned
off (which it should be, as it never should be used), the ability to at
least be able to enter a dual date. Give more tags that can be used in
the date field to record dates that may be old or new. Particularly: date
"as found, not sure which calendar", old/new maybe, old/new definitely.
Should probably just do away with auto dual dating; it just invites errors.
Find Individual The present "Find Individual" search does not
recognizes spaces or periods. Mass<space> gets Massachusetts, where
it should not. Mass. gets Massachusetts, where it should not. Also problems
with searches for specific dates getting range dates that include that
date.
Date Calculator, ie date of death minus age = date of birth.
Exporing GedComs:
-
Make the "burial" tag export with the BURI gedcom tag. It presently exports
with the EVEN tag, which means the information will not go to the right
spot in those genealogy programs that have a special spot for Burials.
-
Ability to privatize reports or gedcoms, giving the same options that Gedlivng
presently does.
Merging:
-
Give individuals the option to "jump" to edit the record and "jump" back
to the merge screen
-
Give individuals 3 options for facts: Primary, secondary, or pitch.

Key Strokes / Productivity
Gang Bang Sources. A way to "gang bang" sources when one enters
a series of records from a single source. One solution might be a special
"paste" key. Another would be buttons to indicate "post this source to
all fields this person", "this field all in family", or "all fields for
everyone in this family".
Auto Merging Records and Report.
-
My interest in this feature is from the perspective of what shows in the
possible duplicates report that is "tied into" the auto-merge function.
I want a report on paper of possible duplicates that I can customize the
criteria for. Give individuals the choice for who to include in the selection
criteria. Others, who use the auto-merge feature, want the same flexibility.
Deleting Master Sources - Return the functionality of deleting master
sources even if there are citations to it.

Interface / GUI
Outline Descendant Report Button: Put Outline Descendant Report
back on the Button Bar!!
Customizable Button Bars: Give us the ability to customize the
button bar, with big or little buttons. Add "function" button bars that
a user might include on the button bar if they wish. (like resorting kids,
etc.)
Index
-
Ability to "interchange" other data field column (ie birth location) in
columns where presently are birth and death date. Then, in the index, ability
to sort on those fields, ie location.
-
List names entered with one name, given name only, with \\; at the top
of the list separate from names with surnames.
Pedigree View The clickability of various reports is no substitute
for a pedigree view.
Show relationships on family screen: Add ability to show relationships
of either anyone to a "base-target" individual, or at least show direct-line
ancestors somewhere in the view, set the target to a selected person. If
I start navigating all of my thousands of 17th and 18th century Puritan
ancestors and cousins, I would like a "quick-glance" notation somewhere
on the screen of how each person is related to me.
Append: Replace the word "append" with "import".
Placement of stuff within the menu
-
Merge Master Source Button from "merge" to the Edit Master Source dialog
box
-
Possible duplicate reports from "merge" operation to reports section.
-
Exporting Genealogy reports from menu to rtf to the print dialog box

Reports
Genealogy Register Reports
-
Ability to choose not to include aunts and uncles in ancestral register
reports, as one wishes.
-
Ability to do an Genealogy reports BY LINE within the reports section;
or the give us the ability to that within a book by giving us flexibility
on shutting off notes on the first generation, and/or the first two generations.
-
Add spouses, and their vitals and parents, to aunts and uncles in ancestral
genealogy reports.
-
Add divorce/end of marriage info to genealogy register reports.
-
Put Facts Fields in FRONT OF/top of notes, not under, the notes.
-
Include all spouses and children of female ancestors in genealogy reports,
as is presently done for male ancestors.
Kinship Report:
-
Expand kinship report, as an option, to include anyone related in any way
(for file splitting purposes) Presently too restrictive for doing that.
I think the kinship report stops now just before a second marriage, ie
will not show my wife's sister's husband, will not show my son-in-law's
sister or parents. This change is particularly desirable for file splitting
purposes.
Marriage Report:
-
Add "Selected Individuals" capability to the marriage report. At least
for descendants and ancestors of a given individual, or even other record
sets, ie all marriages in a given state, etc.
Custom Reports
-
In Custom Reports, option to "fit to one page", horizontally. Font would
automatically scale, as is done in Excel, Quickbooks.
New Reports:
-
A "simple" ahnentafel report. Just a list, separated by generation, with
the tfel numbers of ancestors only. (This could be done in the present
ahnentafel report by adding an option to include/exclude children of ancestors,
which is now mandatory. See next wish)
-
Top of line ancestor report. For a designated person, give back a list
of "top-of-line" ancestors.
-
Married cousins report, ie marriages of two people who are related to each
other.
Books
Additional info regarding women in the index of books. Possibly list
under both maiden and married names. Or insert married names in parenthesis
after the maiden name. Or both.
More functionality added to the word processor.
