"Dance With Me"

Note: This fan fiction is inspired by last night's dancing competition on PBS (7/23/99) and Santana's song "Balia Me Hermana (Dance With Me)".

Flight Attendant: (Julie)

Scene 1. Eduardo's band has finished packing away the instruments, and Kylie and Eduardo are left on stage, alone. They are far away from home, in Florida. Kylie is a little concerned about Joaquin.
Kylie: Eduardo?
Eddie: (looking at her) What?
Kylie: Does Joaquin get along with the babysitter? Have you heard anything from her?
Eddie: I got a call from Lucy last night. They're getting along beautifully.
Kylie: (hugs his neck) That's wonderful!
Eddie: (gasping) Easy on my neck, sweetheart!
Kylie: (laughs) Sorry!
(There is a brief pause)
Eddie: We'd better head back to the hotel. We're going back home tomorrow.
Kylie: It was fun staying in Florida though, wasn't it?
Eddie: (like a little kid) I love Disney World, man! If I had a chance, I'd ride the Tower of Terror again!
Kylie: Yeah, that was a scream! (She smiles. They head for the motel. )
Scene 2. The Motel Bedroom . Eddie points to his record player and pulls out a record that reads "Paso Doble". Kylie looks at him, not really knowing what to think. Eddie places the record on the record player and looks at Kylie with a sly smile. He turns it on, but doesn't play the record quite yet.
Eddie: (arms outstretched) Could you give me the pleasure of just one dance?
Kylie: But, I don't know how to dance the Paso Doble!
Eddie: Oh, it's so simple. You'll love it! (smiles)
Kylie: (curious) What does "Paso Doble" mean?
Eddie: It means "Double Pass", or "Double Step". In this traditional dance, I represent the matador, and you represent the cape.
Kylie: Ah, I understand now! (happily, she walks up to him, grasping his left hand) So... let's give this traditional dance of yours a try.
Eddie: (triumphantly) All right! (Eddie places the needle on the record, and they begin to dance. Kylie has a big smile on her face, and is laughing)
Kylie: This isn't so hard.
Eddie: No, it isn't. It's fun, isn't it?
Kylie: Sure. (laughs) I've always loved dancing with you, Eduardo.
Eddie: (romantically) And, I with you, my angel.
(At the end of the dance, he twirls her around and gives her a kiss)
Kylie: (sighs, hugging him)
Eddie: (yawning, and looks at watch) AY!
Kylie: What ?! (looks at her watch as well) Yow! It's late!
Eddie: Yeah, no kidding. If we want to wake up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed tomorrow,
we're gonna have to go to bed soon.
Kylie: But, what about packing our suitcases?
Eddie: Ah, dang ! I forgot about doing that !
Kylie: (optimistically) If we work together, we can get the job done twice as quickly.
Eddie: Good thinking, Kylie. You see, all my friends were right when they said that you
are my better half.
Kylie: (chuckling) Oh, Eduardo. (grabbing suitcase) Come on…We've got to get this done.
(They pack their suitcases and finally go to sleep, exhausted from so much work. In the
morning, one of the members honks his horn, and Eddie wakes up. He wakes Kylie up
and she sluggishly follows him to their rented car, which is a Chrysler.)
Scene 3. The Airport.
Kylie: (hand in hand with Eddie) Hey, Eduardo?
Eddie: (sleepily) Huh?
Kylie: Have you ever been on an airplane?
Eddie: (yawns) Once, but I was too little to remember it.
Kylie: I've never been on one. I've always wanted to fly in an airplane.
This is very exciting!
Eddie: (dozing off) Wake me… (head lowering, eyes shutting) when we…get home…
Kylie: (loudly) Eduardo!
Eddie: ( a little startled) What ?! (eyes flutter)
Kylie: You can sleep on the plane. Please don't fall asleep here.
Eddie: (eyes fluttering) I'll try not to. (yawns again)
(Kylie leads Eddie into the airplane, toting luggage behind her. The flight attendant seats them.)
Scene 4. The Plane, The Plane! (Sorry, couldn't resist !)
Flight attendant: (perky) If you need anything, just ask!
Eddie: (a little amazed) Wow, she's really peppy, isn't she?
Kylie: Flight attendants have to be spunky and congenial or they would lose customers.
Eddie: That's true. (lowering chair) I'm going to take a few winks… (falls asleep)
Kylie: (looking out window, quietly) Everything looks so small, just like toys! (to the flight attendant) Miss?
Flight attendant: (still very perky) My name's Julie, Ma'am!
Kylie: Julie…Uh, could I please have a Coke ?
Flight attendant: No problem, Ma'am. I'll be right back. (returns quickly with a Coke)
Kylie: (impressed) Brava. That was fast ! (pause) Thank you, Julie.
Flight attendant: Just let me know if you need anything.
Kylie: (graciously) Thank you.
Scene 5, New York, New York. "The Town So Nice, They Named it Twice".
The plane lands in New York, and it is near 9:00 PM. Kylie and Eduardo head back to their home, looking rather tired. Joaquin is watching late-night TV and Lucy hears the door bell ring.
Lucy: Hey, Joaquin! Your parents are home!
Joaquin: (not noticing, glued on TV)
Lucy: (short laugh) Kids… (gets the door) Hello Mr. and Mrs. Rivera!
Eddie: Hey. (Gives her money)
Lucy: (graciously, almost amazed at the amount of money she receives) Wow! Thanks!
Kylie: Don't spend it all in one place, ok ?
Lucy: You two… I don't know what to say really…But, thanks for letting me baby-sit Joaquin.
He's really well behaved.
Eddie: (proudly) You hear that? Well-behaved!
Kylie: (unenthusiastically) I hear it. (yawns) Man, I'm bushed.
Eddie: Yeah… jetlag's really getting to me.
Kylie: Eduardo, you don't have jetlag... we never left this time zone!
Eddie: Whatever.
Lucy: Well, (short bow) thanks again. (pause) Call me again when you need me,
alright ? (turns around) Bye ! (Leaves, gets in her white convertible and heads to her house)
Kylie: We'd better get Joaquin into bed. It's past his bedtime.
Eddie: (walking into room, Joaquin's asleep on the floor) Would you look at that?
Kylie: Fast asleep! (Eddie and Kylie look at each other lovingly, Kylie picks up Joaquin
and cradles him in her arms, taking him upstairs.)
(Kylie lays Joaquin in his bed and covers him carefully with the blankets. She gives him
a kiss on the nose. Eddie walks into the room and kisses his son on the forehead and leaves.
He walks into his and Ky's room first.)
Eddie: (falling onto the bed) Making music is hard work…
Kylie: (looking at him from the other side of the bed) But, isn't it worth it?
Eddie: (yawning) Yep. (turning off light) Goodnight, hon.
Kylie: Sweet dreams, Eduardo.
Both fall asleep, and the camera pans out. We see a flicker and are able to see into
Eduardo's dream. He is dancing with Kylie once again, and Kylie is having the same
dream. They are having a shared dream. From the looks on their faces, they are both
cosmically joyful, as they dance to a spicy Latin rhythm under the sky of stars and a
perfectly full moon. A shot of a starry, nighttime New York sky is shown and a meteorite
shoots majestically through the sky.
