How We Got Started

Back in June of '92 bassist Pete Sencevicky placed an ad in the Hilton Head newspaper, The Island Packet, for musicians interested in playing Dixieland Jazz to join him at Cheryl's Le Caberet.Twelve musicians arrived and it was the beginning of a Society that now boasts over 100 dues-paying members, approximately half of which are performing musicians. The annual dues are $20 ($15 for performing musicians).

In '98  Pete handed the organization over to its members. Thus was born a Board of Directors and more delegation of responsibilities. The venue changed from Cheryl's to The Jazz Corner in October of 2001.

In the meantime, DJSLC musicians have played or are currently playing in several local restaurants and clubs, have donated their talent for charitable insitutions, have donated time and funds to help develop Jazz in the High School, and continue to play gigs throughout the low country.

And more than that, the members have developed a special kind of camaraderie among themselves.

Donations collected during performances are dedicated to encourage Dixieland Jazz in the local schools.
Dixieland Jazz at the Jazz Corner
On the last Sunday of every month, our musicians present Dixieland music at it's best from 2PM to 5PM. It's a fun Jamboree...and it's free!

The Jazz Corner (843 842 8620), Hilton Head Island's Premier  Jazz Supper Club,  is located off of William Hilton Parkway (Bus278) in the Village at Wexford two stoplights north of Sea Pines Circle in the far left corner down from Wendys.
Musicians
Our members come from many walks of life. There are Doctors, Dentists, Lawyers, CEO's, and representatives from many other areas as well.

Some of our players are amatuers, others are accomplished professionals. All volunteer their time and talent. And, the one thing we all share is the pleasure of offering our fans entertaining Dixieland Jazz.

We offer opportunities for Dixieland jazz musicians to perform before interested audiences and there are opportunities for our many non-musician members to socialize and contribute to our activities as well.
