About Lessons

When you start taking piano lessons.....

Piano

To take piano lessons, you need a piano. It can be either acoustic or electric. If you purchase an electric one, make sure it has 88 KEYS with PIANO TOUCH. Contact me for recommendations.

Musical material

There are no additional fees for the materials I provide. I intend to use many different pieces for the beginners. After a while, when the student is ready to use a whole book, I will suggest particular books (and editions) to keep. Until then, I will provide the material to the student as they are needed.

Listening material

A "tape of the Week" will be lent to the student after every lesson to take home. This is to help extend their musical thinking and sensibility. Please listen at least three times during the week. Each tape will be only fifteen minutes long.

Home work

I will often give the student homework in addition to keyboard practice such as "write down all of the sounds you hear in one evening" to extend your sound awareness.

Lesson fee

Fee for the one lesson is from $35 (30min/beginner).

One additional comment

If you want to take lessons in Japanese, please let me know. In either case I will teach musical terms in English to avoid confusion; however, everything else can be discussed in Japanese if you prefer.
