Overview of music education

My purpose in music education is to teach what makes a "real" musician and how to achieve that. I believe that understanding how to focus on a subject you are interested in is one of the great tools in life.

What is required to become a real artist?

There are two factors you need in order to be a real musician: internal, psychological and emotional factors; and external, technical and theoretical factors.

Internal factors

No matter what a student's first motivation to start taking piano lessons, helping that student to develop an internal sense of purpose is my first task as a piano teacher. My goal will be to help students to feel "I am practicing piano because it is a fun thing to do". If the student can achieve this state of mind, he or she will have established a really solid musical foundation for the rest of their lives. There are a lot of "fake" musicians in this world, some rather successful. However, for them, playing music is only a tool to seize power, not coming fom a true and deep appreciation of music. Since a great performance can only be achieved through sincere devotion and untiring efforts, the fake musician fades from our memory very quickly.

The real musician must have an appreciation for all sorts of music. In that sense, I don't believe a musician is truly educated if he or she cares only for the music they happen to play and has no respect for other styles of music.

External factors

Of course the teacher will explain techniques to improve playing piano as easily and quickly as possible, but the most important point is the time the student spends in practice. Simply put, practice time is proportional to technical achievement. There are no fairy god mothers in the musical world. A talent is the ability to keep attention on the subject you are interested in, and even to enjoy practicing. Sounds hard? Actually, it is not as difficult as you think. If you want to play and be happy, you are ready. Please contact me anytime. Young students are accepted from the age of six.
