My Special Heroes

My dad Charles with me. This was taken just a few months before he died in 1955.

My parents in 1953 (pregnant with me)

My Biological Father, Charles Parsons Farmer was an Army Veteran in WW2. During the time he was a POW, he was severely injured by a bullet from a German prison guard. Those injuries took his life in 1955. He died at the very young age of 29, in the VA Hospital in Seattle, Washington, September 24th 1955 (on my 2nd birthday). My father received both the BRONZE STAR and PURPLE HEART which I have in my posession and treasure dearly.

This is a picture of my Biological Dad, Charles at age
18, taken in 1944 just before he left for Germany.

At age two I really do not remember him, but there was never a negative word said about him by anyone who knew him. I wish I would have had that opportunity.

My step -dad, Howard Lee Palmer ( who raised me like his own daughter from the age of 5) was a 30 year career Navy man and was a Veteran of  WW2, Korea, and Nam.  His life ended in 1995 at age 68 after a long battle with heart disease relating to the rheumatic fever that he contracted while overseas.

Dan, my husband (on right), with my step dad Howard, as Dan was being presented the Navy Chiefs Anchor, following the E-7 Chiefs Initiation. (Not many Marines did that!!)

This is a picture of my Step Dad Howard, taken in 1970 while we were stationed in Japan, just after he made Chief ( E-7)

He gave us (my mom Evelyn, my sister Nancy and myself) a wonderful life...yes I enjoyed being a Military Brat very much.

The third Veteran and Hero in my life was my Husband Daniel Patrick Henry. Dan went into the Marines in 1967 and spent two tours in Nam. ( 67 and 69) He was still active military when his life ended very unexpectedly in 1983 at age 32, as a result of his illness with PTSD.

Here is one of Dan in 72 when we
were stationed at El Toro, Calif

He left behind two children, who were only 10 and 12 when he died. I see Dan every day in their eyes. He would have been so proud of Lisa and Michael (as I am) and the wonderful adults they have become.

he gave his sister away on her wedding day August 97

Dans name is listed here The Vietnam War In Memory Memorial Plaque Project

I have one other Veteran I would like to tell you about. I wear a POW/MIA Bracelet for Marine LTC Gary Henry Fors who was shot down in Vietnam. His hometown is in Washington State, not far from my home. You can find out more about Gary by clicking on the link below.
