Halloween! Halloween!

Halloween! Halloween!

By Jill

(I wrote this story when I was in elementary school.)

Hi, my name is Britney, but all my friends call me Brit. I live in Salem, Massachusetts with my three brothers, my four year old sister, and my parents, Martha and William. I also have a husky dog named Dracula. I just love Halloween. I just finished a book titled How Halloween All Began. It was about how people named Halloween Halloween and how people all over the world celebrate it. I also have a black cat named Frankenstein. I've been trick-or-treating ever since I was one and I went dressed as a little orange pumpkin.

This year, I'm going as something way more grown up, I'm going as nothing. That's right, nothing. I'm going as nothing because I'm not going at all. I'm going to give out the candy in little bags for all the little kids that ring our door bell.

Tonight was Halloween. "Are you sure you'll be okay all alone here on this cold, dark night?" asked my mom, trying to put a Halloween mask on my youngest brother, Danny. "Mom, I'm fifteen years old. There's nothing to worry about," I said, trying to get all the bags of candy into our little bowl. "Well, I hope the door bell doesn't break with all those kids ringing it," said my mom. "Oh don't worry, I'm going to sit here in a chair and give out all the candy bags," I said as I pointed down the road trying to get them to leave.

When they left, I sat down and turned on the Halloween music we always play. Then, a little girl dressed as a butterfly and her dad, dressed as a bumblebee, came up to the house. She bent down and petted Frankenstein. Frankenstein jumped up onto my lap. I gave him a kiss on the head and he purred. As the little girl and her father left, she asked, "Daddy, how come the kitty liked that girl better than me?" "Because it was her cat, sweety," said her father. I giggled a little bit until a little boy dressed up as Super Man came up and I screamed. I gave him a bag of candy and he disappeared.

I went up the front steps to light the jack-o-lantern, when Dracula licked my hand. "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!" I screamed. When I saw that it was only him, I started to giggle some more. This time even louder than before.

I sat down again and a little boy dressed up as a ghost walked up to me and said from under his clean white sheet, "Give me some candy or I'll call my mommy!" "Okay, okay, hold your horses," I said, stuffing a bag of candy into his almost full pillow case. "Horses? I don't have any horses and I sure can't hold them," said the little boy, feeling very puzzled. "Never mind," I said to him as his face got redder and redder as he looked at the candy. I quickly gave him two more bags and he ran off to his mother, who was tapping her foot and looking at her watch.

A little girl dressed up as a daisy walked up to me. Her sister was standing behind her saying, "Like, lets go. I'm going to be late for the Halloween party at my boyfriend's house." I gave the little daisy a bag of candy and she ran over to her sister.

A little dog came up to me and dropped a little note on my lap. He ran off into the woods. I unfolded the note. It said:

Dear Britney,

You're invited to a party
Where - Jack's house
Please come to my
Party!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was a note from my friend Jack. I told him never to call me Britney. I turned off the outside lights and put the candy and my chair inside the house. I grabbed Dracula's leash and a flashlight. I ran out of the house to go looking for dad, so he could give out the candy bags.

When I found dad, he ran back to the house. He also took Dracula with him. I hopped on my bike and rode all the way to Jack's house. I parked my bike outside and walked into the house. When I got into the room where they were having the party, I saw that everyone was wearing a costume. I was just wearing a baseball jersey, a baseball cap, and a pair of sweat pants. I was so worried. But then I noticed, I looked like a baseball player. I walked in and sat down next to my best friend, Julie. When I got home after the party, my little sister ran up to me and gave me a big hug. I pulled her off and walked into my bedroom. I took out my How Halloween All Began book and started to read it over again. I closed the book and pulled the covers over my head. Dracula was lying at the end of the bed and Frankenstein was cuddled up right next to me.

The next morning, I ate all of the leftover candy from Halloween. "So, did you enjoy your Halloween?" asked my dad as he stirred the pancake batter. "Oh yeah," I said, running to the bathroom to throw up. "Yuk e wuk wuk," said my little sister.
