08/14/01 Posted to Marine Corps Forum (WWII Marine) by F.E. (Jim) DeVine I grew up during the depression with divorced parents who shifted us between them because there was no money. My older brother and I slept on a bare mattress with only a blanket. I went to P.I. with my only shirt and trousers and shoes with holes covered by cereal box tops. When we were issued TWO SHEETS, I thought I was in heaven! I "borrowed" two extra sheets and kept them in my sea bag, just in case. All this and three squares a day and the love of my DI. It truly was heaven! END F.E. (Jim) DeVine
